โง๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด is an important quality control process used to determine the ferrite content in stainless steel materials, especially welds.
It provides valuable information about the microstructure and predicts material behavior during fabrication and service.

Ferrite is one of the major microstructural phases found in stainless steels along with austenite.
It is magnetic in nature compared to non-magnetic austenite.

Stainless Steels (e.g. 304, 316):
These have low ferrite content, usually < 1%. Ferrite decreases corrosion resistance.
Stainless Steels (e.g. 2205, 2507):
Contain a mix of austenite and ferrite. Require 25-65% ferrite for optimal properties.
Stainless Steels (e.g. 409, 430):
Contain up to 100% ferrite in annealed condition. Minimum 85% ferrite required.
Stainless Steels (e.g. 410, 420):
Have 75-95% ferrite in annealed state. 75-90% needed for good corrosion resistance.

1.Austenitic steels: 4-8% (Keep > FN4.) ferrite prevents micro-cracking during solidification.
2.Duplex steels: 30-65% ferrite required for strength and corrosion resistance.
Ferrite % = 0.7 x FN (for 22% Cr duplex)
Ferrite % = 0.65 x FN (for 25% Cr duplex)
FN = (Ferrite %) x [Formula] (for FN >10)
THE IMPORTANT DISTANCE BETWEENT WELD
Calculating the distance between welds, whether longitudinal or circumferential, is crucial in various engineering and construction applications, particularly in industries such as pipeline construction, pressure vessel fabrication, and structural welding why it is important:
โถ๏ธStructural Integrity
Maintaining proper distances between welds helps ensure the structural integrity of welded components. Improper spacing can lead to stress concentrations, weld defects, and potential failure under load.
Weld Quality
Adequate spacing between welds allows for proper access and manipulation during welding operations, leading to better weld quality and reduced likelihood of defects such as lack of fusion, incomplete penetration, or undercutting.
Code Compliance
Many engineering codes and standards specify minimum distances between welds to ensure compliance with safety and quality requirements. Adhering to these standards is essential for regulatory compliance and certification purposes.
Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) Control Proper spacing between welds helps control the heat affected zone (HAZ) in adjacent welds, minimizing the risk of intergranular corrosion, distortion, or metallurgical issues caused by excessive heat input.
Ease of Inspection and Maintenance
Adequate spacing facilitates inspection and maintenance activities by providing sufficient clearance for examination tools, non-destructive testing (NDT) equipment, and repair procedures.
Calculating the distance between welds, engineers and welders typically refer to engineering drawings, specifications, or applicable codes and standards that provide guidance on minimum spacing requirements based on factors such as weld size, joint configuration, material thickness, and service conditions.
Additionally, considerations for factors such as welding sequence, accessibility, and operational requirements may also influence the determination of weld distances in specific applications.
