*India pre-market report — Friday, 17 April 2026* *Opening tone:* slightly soft to flat. Nifty 50 closed Thursday at 24,196.75 and Sensex at 77,988.68. As of 8:46 a.m. IST, GIFT Nifty futures were 24,169, down 45 points, which points to a marginally negative-to-flat start for cash equities. *What changed after Thursday’s close:* the biggest domestic macro development was on the currency side. Reuters reported that the RBI asked state-run oil refiners to curb spot dollar buying and use a special credit line, which is helping the rupee; traders expected the rupee to open around 92.94–92.98/USD versus 93.1950 on Thursday. That matters because a firmer rupee can ease some pressure on imported inflation and on oil-sensitive sectors. *Global bias*: mixed, but better than it looked during Thursday’s late-session slide. Wall Street closed at fresh record highs, while Asian equities were down about 0.6% Friday morning as traders stayed cautious on the durability of Middle East de-escalation. Brent crude eased to about $98.14/bbl after Thursday’s spike, which is helpful for India even though oil is still elevated. *Institutional flows*: provisional data showed foreign portfolio investors bought Indian shares worth ₹3.82 billion on Thursday, marking a second straight session of buying. That is a modest positive for sentiment into the open. *Stocks and sectors likely in focus at pre-open:* Wipro is the main overnight drag. It gave a weak Q1 outlook, citing muted client demand, and its U.S.-listed shares fell overnight; it also announced a buyback of up to ₹150 billion at ₹250/share. The read-through is negative for near-term IT sentiment, even though the buyback may cushion stock-specific damage. HDFC Life reported a small profit increase, but value of new business fell 8.4% and margins narrowed; separately, it approved a preferential issue to HDFC Bank. That makes the setup mixed, with the earnings quality likely getting more attention than the capital infusion. Angel One reported an 83% rise in Q4 profit, so capital-market and broking names may see positive attention. Axis Bank is also in focus after saying its board will consider equity or debt fundraising on 25 April. Overall mixed bias with flat open. No early entries are suggested.

Intraday targets are almost done in Crompton, One can book their profits for intraday purpose

Crompton is one stock which I’m sniping since a long time. In addition to intraday targets, this stock is a long run candidate. Once the 257.50 is breached, the prices will rally for the projected targets. But this is a game of patience!! Chart explained here 👇 https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VanXIFTAzNbzxU4hF62L/4538
