🇸🇪 🇩🇰 🇫🇮 Left-wing and green parties had a decent night in Scandinavian countries, with far-right and populist parties seeing no gains with some of their vote share declining. General trends: 📈 The far right saw the largest growth since e/e (since the last election) that we have seen this century. The next biggest winners were mainstream right wing parties, the best performing of whom largely piggybacked on the messaging of the far right. 📉 Greens throughout the continent suffered devastating defeats with many losing as much as 50% of their current representation. The next biggest losers were socialists and the left.

A big win for the “far right” tonight in Europe. Here are some of the highlights: 🇩🇪 Socialists in Germany suffered big losses while the right made massive gains. The AfD became the second largest party in Deutschland! 🇫🇷 Macron has dissolved parliament and called early elections after humiliating defeat that saw his party drop 17% on Marine Le Pen’s. 🇧🇪 Belgium's PM Alex De Croo has unexpectedly resigned after a crushing defeat in the EU election. 🇦🇹 In Austria, the far-right Freedom Party won 26% of the vote, topping a nationwide ballot for the first time. 🇮🇹 The rw populist Brothers of Italy more than doubled their seats in parliament. 🇳🇱 The anti-immigration Party for Freedom projected to win six seats, just two seats shy of the total picked up by centre-left and greens.
