What is Interest Equalisation Support?
Interest Equalisation Support is a scheme where the government helps exporters by subsidizing the interest rate on loans they take for exports.
This makes borrowing cheaper for exporters, helping them compete in global markets where financing costs might be lower.
The objective is:
• Reduce the cost of financing exports
• Encourage exporters, especially in sectors facing global competition
• Improve the country’s export performance
How Does It Work?
1. An exporter takes a loan to finance the production, shipping, or marketing of goods to be exported.
2. Normally, the exporter pays interest at the prevailing rate (say 9% per annum).
3. Under Interest Equalisation Support, the government reimburses or subsidizes part of the interest.
4. As a result, the effective interest rate borne by the exporter is lower (say 6% instead of 9%).
Example – Export of Textiles
Let’s say:
• A textile exporter in India wants to export garments to Europe.
• The exporter borrows ₹1 crore (100 lakhs) at an interest rate of 9% per annum to finance production and shipment.
Without support:
• Annual interest = 9% of ₹1 crore = ₹9,00,000
With Interest Equalisation Support (subsidy of 3%):
• Effective interest rate = 9% − 3% = 6%
• Annual interest = 6% of ₹1 crore = ₹6,00,000
• The exporter saves ₹3,00,000 in interest expenses.

• TFR (Total Fertility Rate): Avg. no. of children per woman.
• Replacement Level TFR: 2.1 (needed to replace a generation).
Key Findings
• CBR: Declined to 18.4 in 2023 (from 19.1 in 2022).
• TFR: Fell to 1.9 (first dip in 2 years; was 2.0 in 2021–22).
• Highest CBR: Bihar (25.8) | Lowest CBR: Tamil Nadu (12).
• Highest TFR: Bihar (2.8) | Lowest TFR: Delhi (1.2).
• States with TFR > 2.1: Bihar, UP, MP, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh.
• 18 States/UTs: TFR below replacement level.
