The amygdala is one of those fucked up (hence, interesting) structures. Researchers at first thought that it's the center responsible for aggression, because whenever they provoked it, the lab rat would go berserk. We later found out that it's actually responsible for fear & negative emotions. And aggression is basically a response to fear.
