أكو إنزيم بالجسم، إسمه xanthine oxidase. هذا وظيفته يجيب ذرة أوكسجين ويلزكها بوحدة من ذرات الكاربون اللي بالـ purine (يعني يؤكسده). إذا الـ purine لزكت بيه ذرة أوكسجين وحدة، يصير hypoxanthine. إذا ثنين، يصير xanthine. إذا ثلاثة، يصير uric acid. لما يزيد الـ uric acid ويسببلنا داء النقرس، ممكن ننطي علاج هو allopurinol اللي ببساطة يوكف هذا الإنزيم بحيث الـ xanthine/hypoxanthine ما يتأكسد ويتحول لـ uric acid.
