The Two Jihaads Of The Self In Ramadhaan Al-Haafith Ibn Rajab, may Allaah have mercy upon him, said: اعلم أنَّ المؤمنَ يجتَمعُ له في شَهر رمضَان جهادَان لنَفْسِه: - جهادٌ بالنَّهار على الصِّيام ، - وجهادٌ باللَّيل على القيام ، فمَن جمعَ بينَ هذَيْن الجهادَين ، ووَفَّى بحُقُوقهما ، وصَبَر عليهما ، وفَّى أجرَه بغَير حسَابٍ. So whoever gathers between these two jihaads, fulfills their rights, and is patient with them, then he is given his reward without limit." WHAT TO SAY AFTER THE RECITATION OF THE QURAN Sheikh ʿAbdul-ʿAzīz ibn Bāz said:

“Many people have become accustomed to saying: ‘ṢadaqAllāh-ul-‘Adhīm’ when they finish reciting the Qurān Al-Karīm, But this act is baseless and it should not be taken as a custom. Rather, according to the principles of Sharī'ah (Islāmic law), it is a type of Bid’ah.

[Majmūʿ al-Fatāwá 24/410] An Abandoned Sunnah after Reciting the Qur'ān It is preferred on finishing the recitation of the Qur'ān to say: سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، أشهد أن لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ The evidence for this is as follows: Aaishah - may Allāh be pleased with her - mentioned that: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ was never in a sitting, never recited the Qur'ān, nor did he ever offer a prayer, except that he ended them all with certain words. She added: ''So I said to him, O Messenger of Allaah, I noticed that you never are in a sitting, nor do you ever recite the Quraan, nor observe a Salaat, except that you end off with these words''. He replied by saying, ''Yes''. ''Whoever has said good (words) would have them placed as a seal over the good he has done and whoever has said evil (words) would have them used as an expiation for the evil he uttered''. (They are): سُبْحَانَكَ اللَّهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِكَ، أشهد أن لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ أَنْتَ، أَسْتَغْفِرُكَ وَأَتُوبُ إِلَيْكَ. Unfortunately, these days the majority of the people (except those Allaah blesses) have abandoned this Sunnah (either due to ignorance of it or due to forgetfulness). After reciting the Quran, they replaced this sunnah with: Sadaqallaahul adheem or kissing the Quraan. Thus, it is incumbent upon us to spread this sunnah so it can be established once again. Imām An-Nasā'ee named the chapter of this hadeeth in his book as "What to conclude the recitation of the Qur'ān with." Its isnaad is authentic as explained by An-Nasā'ee in "As-Sunan Al-Kubrā". Ibn Hajar also mentioned in "An-Nukat" (733/2) that its chain of narration is authentic. Al-Albānī equally said in "Silsilat As-Saheehah" (495/7) that "this is also an authentic chain that conforms with the conditions of Imām Muslim." Allaah Is More Merciful To You Than Your Own Mother عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ قَدِمَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم بِسَبْىٍ فَإِذَا امْرَأَةٌ مِنَ السَّبْىِ تَبْتَغِي إِذَا وَجَدَتْ صَبِيًّا فِي السَّبْىِ أَخَذَتْهُ فَأَلْصَقَتْهُ بِبَطْنِهَا وَأَرْضَعَتْهُ فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ أَتَرَوْنَ هَذِهِ الْمَرْأَةَ طَارِحَةً وَلَدَهَا فِي النَّارِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قُلْنَا لاَ وَاللَّهِ وَهِيَ تَقْدِرُ عَلَى أَنْ لاَ تَطْرَحَهُ ‏.‏ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏"‏ لَلَّهُ أَرْحَمُ بِعِبَادِهِ مِنْ هَذِهِ بِوَلَدِهَا 'Umar Ibnul-Khattaab (may Allaah be pleased with him) reported: Some captives were brought to the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ), and amongst them was a woman who was searching (for someone). Whenever she found a child amongst the captives, she would take the child, hug the child tightly, and nurse them. The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) then said to us:  "Do you think this woman would throw her child into the Fire?" We said, "No, by Allaah! Not while she is able to prevent it." ⚠️ Two Important Notices: First Notice: The most complete way to fast ʿĀshūrā’ is by fasting on the ninth (tomorrow -> Friday) along with the tenth (Saturday). As for fasting on the eleventh day (Sunday), the ḥadīth regarding it is weak. It was narrated by Aḥmad, Ibn Khuzaymah, and Al-Bayhaqī from the narration of Ibn ʿAbbās, and it contains two flaws: First flaw: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbdirraḥmān ibn Abī Laylā — trustworthy but of poor memory. Second flaw: Dāwūd ibn ʿAlī Al-Hāshimī — deemed acceptable (maqbūl) (1). Second Notice: This year, the day of ʿĀshūrā’ falls on a Saturday. It is permissible to fast it alone or along with the day before it (Tāsūʿā’, the ninth). As for the ḥadīth: ((لَا تَصُومُوا يَوْمَ السَّبْتِ إِلَّا فِي مَا افْتُرِضَ عَلَيْكُمْ، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَجِدْ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَّا لِحَاءَ عِنَبَةٍ أَوْ عُودَ شَجَرَةٍ فَلْيَمْضَغْهُ)). "Do not fast on Saturday except for what has been made obligatory upon you. And if one of you finds nothing but the bark of a grapevine or a tree branch, let him chew it," this ḥadīth is weak. It was narrated by Aḥmad, Abū Dāwūd, At-Tirmidhī, and An-Nasā’ī in Al-Kubrā from the narration of ʿAbdullāh ibn Busr. What Happens If You Observe Fasting On The Day Of 'Arafah? عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ اَلْأَنْصَارِيِّ ‏- رضى الله عنه ‏- أَنَّ رَسُولَ اَللَّهِ ‏- صلى الله عليه وسلم ‏-سُئِلَ عَنْ صَوْمِ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ.‏ قَالَ: "يُكَفِّرُ اَلسَّنَةَ اَلْمَاضِيَةَ وَالْبَاقِيَةَ", وَسُئِلَ عَنْ صِيَامِ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ.‏ قَالَ: "يُكَفِّرُ اَلسَّنَةَ اَلْمَاضِيَةَ." Abuu Qataadah Al-Ansaaree (may Allaah be pleased with him) narrated, "The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) was asked about fasting on the day of 'Arafah (the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah). He replied, 'It is an expiation for the preceding year and the following year.' He was also asked about fasting on the day of 'Aashuuraa (the 10th of Muharram). Answer: It should be on the day of eid after the prayer as it comes in some narrations بإسناد حسن عن جبير بن نفير قال ” كان أصحاب رسول الله – صلى الله عليه وسلم – إذا التقوا يوم العيد يقول بعضهم لبعض : تقبل الله منا ومنك Hafidh Ibn Hajr rahimahullah said: “With a Hasan chain from Jubair ibn Nufayr said: The Companions of the Messenger sallahu alayhi wa salam if they used to met on the day of eid they would say to one another: May Allah accept from you and me” [Fathul Bari] Shaikhul Islaam Ibn Taymiyyah rahimahullah was asked: Question: Is the greeting on Eid and what the people say: Eid Mubarak and what resembles that legislated or not? If it does have an origin in the legislation, then what is said? Please give us a verdict may Allah reward you. Answer: As for the greeting on Eid, each person says to the other when meeting after the Eid prayer: Tabbaqal Allah Minna wa Minkum and Wa Ahalahul Allahu Alayka and what resembles that. This has been reported from a group of the Companions radiallahu anhu and they allowed it. However, Imam Ahmed said: I do not initiate it to anyone. If someone initiates it with me then I respond to it. That is because responding is obligatory. As for initiating the greeting then it is not a Sunnah ordered. It is also not something prohibited. So whoever does it, then he has an example and whoever leaves it off, then he has an example.
