For the 60% of the population who voted NO to the voice, be warned the Council via the State government is still proceeding with the divisive policy under a different name. For us it is the Wyndham Reconciliation Advisory Committee. Check out the LOOP. The Wyndham Reconciliation Action plan has been extended to 2025. It is a guide to assist the council with embedding the voices and priorities of Aboriginal communities at a local government level. In the current plan it states this is part of the Victorian Treaty process. Why are they proceeding with this when the majority of people said no to Treaty at a Federal level? What this means is that all council decisions must take into account First Nations people before all others. In Wyndham we have a population of around 2500 first nations people living here in a total of over 320,000. That is 0.9% of the Wyndham City population. Respect and acknowledgement is one thing, but we should ensure equitable access, participation and inclusion for all. Singling out one group over all others has the opposite outcome.
