Using the CRISPR technique, it's possible to genetically modify mosquitoes by disabling a gene in females, so that their proboscis turns male, making them unable to pierce human skin. Regardless of how much I happen to despise mosquitoes, there is something truly disturbing, cruel and inhuman about turning them into deformed genetic freaks. Like pulling the wings off flies taken to the level of a government sanctioned program. This is to say nothing of the dangers of so-called scientists having the hubris to play god and potentially causing massive, unforeseen problems for the entire environment. I’m firmly against this. Spray them all with DDT and I won’t bat an eyelash, but this is wrong.
