18. Lesson 18 IELTS - Academic Words for English by Prepare for IELTS @Self_study_materials

CYCLE OF HATRED #shadowing Shadowing is an advanced language learning technique, which can be used by learners independently to improve their intonation and pronunciation. It's quite a simple concept - you listen to a model (i.e. a video or audio of someone speaking) and you repeat what they say in real time. @self_study_materials

Repost from Abdulloh Mahmud
The two pie charts illustrate the usage of energy by typical Australian families, as well as the proportion of greenhouse gases this energy consumption produces. Overall, there seems to be little connection (wit the exception of cooling) between the energy consumption of different appliances and the resulting emissions. Most of the energy is expended on heating the house, but the largest share of greenhouse gasses is produced from water heating. The least energy-intense activity on the chart is cooling (2%), which accounts for 3% of total emissions. In contrast, heating accounts for the largest consumption of energy at 42%, followed by water heating responsible of 30% of energy use. Regarding greenhouse gas emissions, however, the pattern is the opposite, with water heating producing the biggest share of emissions at 32%. Refrigeration and lighting require very little energy, 7 and 4% respectively. In terms of emissions, refrigeration is just 1% behind heating, which emits 15% of overall greenhouse gases. Other appliances are responsible for 15% of energy consumption, but they produce 27% of all the emissions. (177 words) Written by @ozodbek_SK
