The Salvation Army has ignored reports of abuses at the care farm United Souls in the Gelderland settlement of Wekerom since 2021. Reports include employees exposing autistic kids in their care to religious manipulation and exorcism. There were also reports of physical abuse, Omroep Gelderland reports.

A group of almost 200 scientists from 26 countries, including the Netherlands, said that in an urgent letter to Brussels about its bill to oblige “high risk” messaging services to install this software, NOS reports.

A 37-year-old man suspected of luring underage girls online and coercing them to send sexually-explicit content of themselves should be convicted and sent to prison for six years, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) said in court on Tuesday. The Noordwijk man is accused of possessing 552 explicit photos and 75 videos from 18 underage victims. Despite the man claiming to be disturbed by his own actions, the great impact his actions had on his victims necessitates not only a jail sentence, but also mandatory treatment in a TBS psychiatric institution, the OM said.

Last year, 474,000 young people in the Netherlands received youth care, 10,000 more than in 2021. The increase is mainly due to more teenage girls needing help, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) reported on Tuesday. One in nine young people up to 23 received youth care last year. The majority were between 8 and 18 years old.
