WHITE CHOCOLATE CHEWY COOKIES 2 sticks of butter, melted 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp kosher salt 1 tsp baking soda 1/4 cup granulated white sugar 1 ¼ cups brown sugar 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract 1 whole egg 1 egg yolk 2 tbsp milk 2 cups Quaker rolled oats 2 cups white chocolate morsels/chunks Mix ingredients together in the order listed above. Refrigerate for 1 hour to overnight. When ready drop by the tablespoon on parchment lined cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-14 minutes or until the edges begin to brown. Baker's notes: This is Alton Brown's chocolate chip cookie recipe (he doesn't use the oats, however). I use this as a base for other cookies because this recipe is easily adjusted/adapted. Variations include adding different morsels, raisins, nuts, cinnamon (2 teaspoons) or other spices. Using more brown sugar than granulated sugar and using less egg whites is what gives it the chewiness. (not my cookie in the pic, but it comes out similar)

Have you ever called your kids’ pediatrician and they answered the phone, “Hey Kris! What’s up?!” when normally you get an automated voicemail and you’re so confused, wondering why the doctor answered the phone and how he knew your name, and you start questioning what planet you’re living on, then after a very awkward pause and lots of “umms” it dawns on you that you dialed the wrong number so now you’re wracking your brain to figure out exactly who you called, and the pause is getting more awkwarder and you begin to rapid fire the umms, thinking that’ll somehow buy you time to figure out this whole time-space continuum, then blessedly you figure it out but have to now come up with coherent, polite words for the neighbor you need to hang up on so you can call your kids’ pediatrician for realsy this time. Hope y'all had a fantastic 4th of July!! Some of our neighbors were setting off some incredible displays. The kids and I were running around trying to take it all in. I completely forgot to let you know about our favorite snow cone syrup. I found these about three years ago and we use nothing else. It may seem pricey, however it lasts a long time, is made with better ingredients and is super delicious!
