Chromite is the oxide of Iron and Chromium. It is widely used in metallurgical and Chemical industries.
□ DISTRIBUTION
◇ Odisha – accounting for about 99% of the total production, is the largest producer.
◇ Karnataka – is the second largest producer – mined in Hassan district.
◇ Some chromite discovered in the Krishna district of Andhra and tamenglong and Ukhrul districts of Manipur.

◇ Context: Broadcasting Infrastructure and Network Development (BIND) is a central sector Scheme (100% Central funding) to modernize the public broadcaster Prasar Bharati (under which comes All India Radio (AIR), Door darshan (DD) and other channels)
□ Objectives:
◇ To widen Prasar Bharati’s reach, including in the LWE (Left Wing Extremism), border and strategic areas and provide high-quality content to the viewers.
◇ To increase the coverage of AIR FM in the country to 66% by geographical area and 80% by population (currently 59% and 68% respectively) Free distribution of over 8 lahks DD Free Dish STBs (Set Top Box) to people living in remote, tribal, LWE and border areas.
□ Importance of Prasar Bharati?
◇ Prasar Bharati, as the public broadcaster of the country, is the most important vehicle of information, education, entertainment and engagement for the people, especially in the remote areas of the country through Doordarshan (DD) and All India Radio (AIR).

Copper is highly ductile, strong and good conductor of electricity. It is mainly used in electrical machinery, Automobile, stainless steel. When alloyed with zinc, it is known as Brass and with tin as bronze.
□ DISTRIBUTION
1. Madhya Pradesh
◇ The state has a large deposits of copper in taregaon in Malanjkhand belt of Balaghat district. Laos found in Bargaon of betul district.
2. Rajasthan.
◇ Found in khetri-singhana belt in Jhunhjhunu district.
◇ Also mined in Ajmer, alwar, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Durgarpur, Jaipur, Pali, Sikar and sirohi districts.
3. Jharkhand
◇ Third largest producer.
◇ Copper is mined in Hazaribagh, Santhal pargana, Gaya and Palamu districts.

From Zimbawe, Australia, USA, Mexico and Japan.

■ MINERAL BELTS.
□ North eastern peninsular belt.
This belt comprising of chota Nagpur plateau, and Odisha belt in the state of Jharkhand, west Bengal and odisha is the richest mineral belt of india.
□ Central belt
This belt encompassing parts of chattisgarh, MP, Telangana, Andhra P and Maharashtra is the second largest mineral belt of india.
□ Southern belt
It covers mostly the Karnataka plateau but extends over the contiguous Tamil nadu upland.
□ South-western belt
Western Karnataka and Goa included in this belt. It has deposits of Iron ore, Garnet and clay.
□ North-western belt
This belt extends along the aravalis in Rajasthan and in adjoining parts of Gujarat.
□ Outside the main belts described above, Minerals in some other parts of the country are scattered here and there.
• Assam has reserves of petroleum and lignite.
• The Himalayan region has some deposits of coal, bauxite, copper, slate etc.
• Mumbai high and Godavari basin have reserves of oil and natural gas.
