Our task as a parent to show and teach our children good and right things. So that they could have a real choice growing up. “And so, let the child be surrounded by sacred forms, objects of all kinds, and let everything that can corrupt in examples, depictions, or things be put away. But later, and for all the time that follows, one must keep the same order. It is well known how powerfully corrupt images act upon the soul, no matter in what form they might touch it! How unfortunate is the child who, closing his eyes, or being left alone and going within himself, is stifled by a multitude of improper images—vain, tempting, breathing of the passions.” Saint Theophan the Recluse

“...those who reject fasting take away from themselves and from others the arms against their flesh, with its manifold passions, and against the Devil, both of which are especially powerful against us through our intemperance”. St. John of Kronstadt Fasting is meant to get control over our passions. In Orthodox Church there is a rule of fasting given for each day of the year. It should not be a source of pride if you manage to follow it strictly. And if you can’t , you try to measure it according to your strength and circumstances, but never reject. When for some reason it is almost impossible to fast from food, it is advised to enter more fully into the spirit and discipline of fasting in spiritual way.

“Your way of your life lies along narrow paths and sorrows, as it is promised to all who follow Christ. Those who follow Him like the matchless Peter and the first-called Andrew are destined for the cross.” St Ignatius (Brianchaninov) It doesn’t mean we have to be always unhappy. We have an everlasting true peaceful joy in Christ, knowing why we live here.

a shroud for the dying. Prayer is converse with God, equal honor with the Angels, progress in good things, averting of evils, righting of sinners. Prayer made the whale a house for Jonas, brought Ezechias back to life from the gates of death, turned the flame to wind of moisture for the Youths in Babylon. Through prayer Elias bound the heaven not to rain for three years and six months. See, brethren, what strength prayer has. There is no possession more precious than prayer in the whole of human life. Never be parted from it; never abandon it. St. Ephraim the Syrian
