The political establishment makes reckless statements about war with Russia. A common strategy in a proxy war is to let your proxy and adversary bleed each other white and, if necessary, enter the war toward the end, when the adversary is significantly weakened. However, the Russian army is much more powerful now — it is larger, more battle-hardened, and technologically advanced. This is not just a suicide mission for our soldiers on a battlefield far away; this war will come to our cities, as Oreshniks will rain down on our heads. We will be unsuccessful in defeating and destroying the world’s largest nuclear power, and defeat is possibly the best outcome, as the alternative would be nuclear weapons raining down on our heads. After surviving the Cold War, we could create any Europe we wanted and our political class decided to return to bloc politics and redivide the continent. In 1997, George Kennan asked: "Why, with all the hopeful possibilities engendered by the end of the Cold War, should East-West relations become centered on the question of who would be allied with whom and, by implication, against whom in some fanciful, totally unforeseeable and most improbable future military conflict?" In 1998, Kennan's pessimism was even greater: "I think it is the beginning of a new cold war... Of course there is going to be a bad reaction from Russia, and then [the NATO expanders] will say that we always told you that is how the Russians are -- but this is just wrong.''

Another ammo depot blows up in Syria, as the country continues to destabilise. The only thing that seemingly holds Syria together now is its president — a former head of Al-Qaeda. If (or when) Syria unravels, it could trigger a turf war between Israel and Turkey. This is what all those years of proxy war against Syria produced. Behind the righteous indignation and moral slogans calling for regime-changing Assad, there was always a predictable disaster.

Big win for United Russia. President Putin's party, United Russia, won 57.83% of the vote in the parliamentary election, which is a significant increase from 49.8% in 2021.

This morning saw the largest drone attack on Moscow since the start of the war. Russia had anticipated a major attack aimed at disrupting its elections, yet several drones reportedly penetrated its air-defence systems. No serious analysts believe that such large scale attacks that aim to circumvent Russia's air defences are done without NATO participation. After surviving the Cold War, today’s political class seems determined to risk triggering a nuclear war.
