LEC Launches Nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls The Election Commission of India (ECI) has initiated a nationwide Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across 12 states and Union Territories starting October 28, 2025. This comes after controversy over a similar exercise conducted earlier in Bihar, which faced criticism for its stringent verification requirements. Key Highlights: Shift in Focus: Unlike Bihar’s SIR, the nationwide exercise focuses on inclusion rather than verification. Existing electors won’t be required to produce documents during enumeration. Wider Linkage: Voters can now trace their link to any state’s previous intensive roll, not just their current state. Reduced Documentation: Only those not found in any previous roll will be asked for eligibility documents.
