Non è lo sguardo dell’indifferenza, né quello della pretesa, ma è lo sguardo di chi ha compassione, cioè di chi sente lo smarrimento collettivo della gente. Non è forse così che Gesù continua a guardare tante disperazioni contemporanee? Non è forse così che Gesù guarda lo spaesamento dei nostri giovani, o l’infelicità di molti adulti? E la sua preghiera è una preghiera concreta: bisogna pregare perché il Signore ci dia come soluzione “gli operai della messe”, cioè cristiani a cui funziona pienamente il battesimo e sanno mettere a frutto la loro fede attraverso la testimonianza.
