For the Prosperity Party and Government: Instead of following peaceful options, the Prosperity Party, which led our country to the devastating civil war in which we lost one million citizens up in the north, we recommend that this ruling party learn from its mistake, and try to solve the problem in Oromia in a peaceful way, instead of trying to continue with its failed military adventure. This military adventure is leading the country and its people to a holistic crisis whose results are difficult to predict. As we have repeatedly warned, instead of seeking political solutions to political problems, choosing to push further forward along such lines on the part of the prosperity party would only spell further disaster for our country and the mass deaths of civilians in Oromia and throughout Ethiopia. We would also like to underscore to the entire Ethiopian people and the international community that the main reason for the danger of displacement and destruction as well as the rising risk of disintegration of the country is the attempts to destroy the multinational federal system step by step by the prosperity party and its reactionary surrogates. This decision of the Prosperity Party to resolve the rights issue that the Oromo people have been peacefully presenting for years with force and power alone shows that they have not learned from the history of failure of previous dictatorial governments in Ethiopia. Here, everyone should realize that the killings and the crackdown on the Oromo people have been carried out in a planned and coordinated way which have only escalated these days. As a result, people are running out of patience. The economic collapse has disrupted livelihoods. Everyone is losing the guarantee of living in peace. If a peaceful and inclusive political solution to this urgent problem is not sought immediately, one must realize that a crisis is emerging that will lead to the disintegration of the country and its people. Therefore, we urge the Prosperity Party to change its course and hold honest political negotiations and discussions with the Oromo political forces and all others. We urge the Amhara Regional Government to withdraw all its armed forces from Oromia that are commiting atrocities aginst civilians; we further urge the regional government to controll illegal militias supported and organised by extremists in Amhara region and that commit cross border attacks against the people in Oromia. 2. To the international community: Instead of looking for a comprehensive and inclusive peace solution by viewing war crimes and human rights violations in a comprehensive approach, focusing on a piece-meal approach limited to one part of the country and ignoring the ongoing war and massacre in Oromia is a serious and unforgivable mistake on the part of the international community. The peace pact that ignores the problem of Oromia does not treat the citizens of the country equally. It is an approach that uses different solutions for the same problem which cannot guarantee peace for the whole of Ethiopia. It should hence be corrected immediately. Here, we want to underscore that the basic problem of our country is a political crisis caused by the failure of the reform aimed at democratic transition in both the North and the South. Therefore, we ask you, all the members of the international community who are friends of Ethiopia, to put the necessary political pressure on the Federal Government of Ethiopia to make a change in course to solve the political disputes in the whole country, and not least in Oromia, through political dialogue and peaceful means instead of force. In particular, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development of East Africa (IGAD), The African Union (AU), the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN), it is your responsibility to oppose and condemn the international crimes committed by tyrannical governments against their citizens and stand in support of the struggle for peoples’ self-defense.

Furthermore, we make an urgent appeal to provide urgent humanitarian aid to the millions of Oromia residents who have been displaced and are at risk of starvation due to war and drought. 3. To the entire Oromo people: The Prosperity Party government is making the entire Oromia a war zone. By disrupting the creation of the democratic and true federal system that you have been fighting for so long, they are turning deaf ear to any of the rights questions that you have been raising over the years. On the contrary, there is a clear and concerted effort to bring the oppressive system that you have been fighting for over a century back onto your shoulders step by step, all over again. As a result, the change that you brought with your blood and bone has been reversed and even worse, you now face a clear existential threat that challenges your very identity as a people. Protect yourself from this impending danger in an organized manner. Do protect your villages and all areas in Oromia in general. Furthermore, we hereby call you to support each other, economically, socially and spiritually, to pass through these extremely challenging times. 4. To the genuine Oromo political forces: The main reason for oppression, massacre and humiliation that is happening to the Oromo people is not the power and strength of the oppressors per se, but the division within the Oromo political forces. Cognizant of this fact, OFC hereby extends cordial calls for concerted struggle by putting aside our minor political differences and defend the existential threat that our people are facing today. 5. For the Oromo elites: Oromo intellectuals in the country and abroad, students, professional employees, journalists and all the Oromo elites in general, we hereby call upon every one to stand with the Oromo people in every way possible and prevent this imminent existential danger that our people are facing. Oromia police, members of the defense forces and federal police and the security apparatus, who are all children of the people, we call upon you to contribute to the legal and peaceful struggle for the rights and dignity of your people. 6. To all the Ethiopian peoples and members of progressive political parties: The Prosperity Party government and its surrogate allies are pushing the country and its peoples into the edge of a cliff. This has already led to an estimated death of more than a million people, according to some sources, and displacement of many millions, not to mention the destruction of properties estimated in billions of dollars and the country’s ribbed apart social fabric that is certain to require many many years to come to heal, if it ever could anyway. As if these are not enough, even the effort to peacefully end the war and massacre in the north has excluded the largest part of the country, Oromia, and war campaigns are underway in full swing against Oromia now. Therefore, for the realization of a democratic multinational federalist dispensation based on peoples’ will as well as free and fair elections to take political power, which we believe are common goods for us all to foster our unity, we hereby call upon for our concerted struggle together towards this end. In particular, we call upon the Amhara people to strive to live in peace with your neighbors without becoming victims to the destructive political conspiracies of some reactionary forces.
