π The Etrog upgrade for Polygon zkEVM is coming to mainnet
Once the upgrade goes live, Polygon zkEVM will likely be the first ZK rollup to reach this milestone β a engineering feat achieved in less than one year. The network will evolve into a Type 2 ZK-EVM, i.e., an EVM-equivalent ZK rollup!
βοΈ What is this important for the blockchain?
- A Type 2 ZK-EVM offers the optimal balance between making it easy for devs to deploy, while still being fast and cheap
β‘ What does this mean for devs?
- Polygon zkEVM has, in effect, met Vitalik's criteria for a Type 2. So you can deploy your code on Polygon zkEVM exactly as it is on Ethereum β just copy-paste and go, no additional auditing or modifications necessary
π₯οΈ What's the impact from an end user's perspective?
- You donβt need to take any action to continue using Polygon zkEVM
- Itβs expected that network efficiency β and overall throughput β will improve making the Polygon zkEVM experience feel smoother
Solving the Monolithic vs. Modular dilemma with a new blockchain design: Aggregation
What is the AggLayer?
The AggLayer will use ZK proofs to create a seamless, aggregated environment that feels like a single chain β even as each chain in the ecosystem remains sovereign...
π No more cumbersome and frequent bridging!
β‘ Enables near-instant, atomic transactions, unifies liquidity across the ecosystem, creates capital efficiency, and dramatically improves UX
π§ For L1s and L2s connected to AggLayer, maintain full sovereignty but also get to tap into a huge pool of unified liquidity, making it easy to bootstrap liquidity
π For users, it will feel like using a single chain
πͺ In the end state of AggLayer, end users will be able to execute cross-chain atomic transactions in < 1 second

You can find POL on Ethereum at 0x455e53cbb86018ac2b8092fdcd39d8444affc3f6
π We reach a new milestone today for Polygon 2.0!
π£ POL Contracts are Live on Ethereum Mainnet!
POL, the technical upgrade to MATIC, is hyperproductive, powering anecosystem of zk-based L2 chains via a native re-staking protocol.
POL holders will be able to validate multiple chains and perform multiple roles on each of those chains (sequencing, zk proof generation, participation in data availability committees etc.)

πΊοΈ Roadmap
π¬ PIP-18 Polygon Improvement Proposal on the Community Forum
FAQ:
1) Is there anything I need to do today as a Polygon PoS, Polygon zkEVM user or MATIC holder?
Nothing.
This upgrade does not change active systems on either the Polygon PoS or Polygon zkEVM networks at this time. All existing contracts will function as previously designed.
If you would like to join the governance process and give your input, you can join the discussion on the forum.
2) Is there anything I need to do today as a node operator or staker?
Nothing.
You can provide feedback on the proposed changes in the PIPs and monitor Github and the forum for new node software versions to remain compatible with your given chain when PIPs are approved by the community.
3) Is there anything I need to do today as an application or tooling developer?
Nothing.
Please engage with POL integrations on the testnet, review the PIPs, provide feedback on the proposed changes and analyze if any changes break your smart contracts. Developers for applications on the Polygon PoS should not see any breaking changes.

In the meantime, Polygon technology offers to us, users and projects:
πΈ Reduced intermediary costs
π New channels of distribution
π Democratisation of investment (wider asset exposure to bigger pools of investors)
π Better capital efficiency
π 24/7 access to liquidity

Together, we can build an equitable future for all through the mass adoption of Web3.
π£ Three weeks ago, a Polygon Improvement Proposal (PIP) detailing the specifications for POL, the upgraded token of the Polygon 2.0 architecture, was released. Today, POL contracts have been deployed on Goerli testnet! π
π€ The deployment of POL contracts to the testnet is the result of community consensus!
POL is the next-generation to MATIC, upgrading to accommodate an ecosystem of zk-based L2 chains by enabling:
- Staking
- Community ownership
- Governance
β»οΈ Also, 2 additional proposals about the burn system are live as a direct response to community deliberations taking place as part of the PIP governance process.

GM folks,
π£ The moment weβve all been waiting for has arrived. Phase 0 of Polygon 2.0 is now underway, 3 Polygon Improvement Proposals (PIPs) and a roadmap for Phase 0 have been introduced today.
π Polygon 2.0 aims to scale Ethereum blockspace to create the Value Layer of the Internet, providing unlimited scalability and unified liquidity.
π§ No immediate action is required today for users of PoS and zkEVM networks, but what is needed from the community is your invaluable input.
Central to the Polygon 2.0 vision is the idea of empowering the community -- the builders, creators and all others who make the Polygon ecosystem possible.
π Please review the PIPs and provide feedback on the proposed changes. Links to the PIPs on the blogpost:
