Number of polluted river in Bihar stretches increases 3 times in 4 years: CPCB
Despite the increasing efforts of both the central and state governments to keep the water bodies clean, the water of different rivers is getting dirtier. The number of polluted river stretches in Bihar has increased three times in the last four years, according to a recent study of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
The number of polluted river stretches (PRS) in the state increased from six in 2018 to 18 in 2022. The water of Sirsiya river in East Champaran has been found to be the most polluted, the study says.
The polluted water of the rivers shows the presence of higher values of bacteriological population (total coliform and faecal coliform), indicating the sewage/domestic waste water as the main source of pollution.
Adequate number of sewage treatment plants has not been constructed as yet and untreated sewage is still being discharged into the rivers, contaminating the riverwater.

बिहार में पिछले पांच वर्षों में पैदा हुए बच्चों के लिंगानुपात में राष्ट्रीय परिवार स्वास्थ्य सर्वेक्षण-4 (NFHS-4) में 934 से NFHS-5 में 908 तक गिरावट देखी गई।
यद्यपि समग्र महिला जनसंख्या पुरुषों की तुलना में अधिक थी, बिहार में लिंगानुपात में गिरावट देखी गई, राष्ट्रीय औसत के विपरीत जहां यह एनएफएचएस-4 में 919 से बढ़कर एनएफएचएस-5 में 929 हो गया।
इसके अलावा, कई लड़कियां 18 वर्ष की आयु प्राप्त करने तक यौन हिंसा का अनुभव करती हैं। हालांकि ऐसे मामलों में गिरावट आई है, लेकिन पहले के आंकड़ों की तुलना में यह अभी भी राज्य में राष्ट्रीय औसत से अधिक है। उदाहरण के लिए, बिहार में 18 से 29 वर्ष की आयु की 14.2% युवतियों ने 18 वर्ष की आयु तक यौन हिंसा का अनुभव किया। एनएफएचएस-5 में यह प्रतिशत घटकर 8.3% रह गया। हालांकि, राष्ट्रीय आंकड़े बताते हैं कि एनएफएचएस-4 और एनएफएचएस-5 दोनों में समान आयु वर्ग की 1.5% महिलाओं ने यौन हिंसा का अनुभव किया था।

Child sex ratio declines in Bihar
Bihar witnessed a decline in the sex ratio of the children born in the last five years from 934 in National Family Health Survey-4 (NFHS-4) to 908 in NFHS-5.
Though the overall female population was more than of males, the sex ratio in Bihar witnessed a declining trend, contrary to the national average where it increased from 919 in NFHS-4 to 929 in NFHS-5.
Also, several girls experience sexual violence by the time they attain 18 years of age. Though there has been a decline in such cases, compared to the earlier data, it's is still more in the state than the national average. For instance, 14.2% of young women aged 18 to 29 years in Bihar experienced sexual violence by the age of 18. This percentage came down to 8.3% in NFHS-5. However, the national data states that 1.5% of women in the same age group had experienced sexual violence both in NFHS-4 and NFHS-5.

Three people from Bihar to receive Padma Shri
Super 30 founder Anand Kumar is among two other people from Bihar who will be awarded the prestigious Padma Shri. Other than Kumar, the two others are Kapildeo Prasad, a weaver from Baswan Bigaha village in Nalanda, and Subhadra Devi, a Mithila artist.
While Kumar has been conferred the award in the literature and education category, Prasad will get the award for his expertise in Bawan Buti saris and other regular used products.
