Dear Students, The University is introducing a new Core Curriculum for incoming students. It consists of 9 courses (54 credits), with each course worth 6 ECTS. Previous Core Curriculum requirements, such as Humanities, Social Sciences, General Electives and Math and CS courses, will be reevaluated for each program and moved to program requirements. 1. AI, Data & Digital Literacy This course introduces the basics of artificial intelligence, data, and digital tools. It will be delivered mainly online and is expected to be offered in the Spring semester by SCAI with support from ASC. 2. Sustainability, Climate & Socio-Economic Transitions Students will explore climate change, sustainability, and global challenges through practical and environmental projects. It will be offered by SSH in the Spring semester with support from ASC. 3. Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Creative Problem Solving This course is expected to be similar to BUS 101; the content will be revised. BUS 101 will also undergo changes this Fall and Spring semester. 4. Academic Writing, Science Communication & Media Literacy (ASC 200) You can find more information about ASC courses in the previous post. 5. Ethics This course is expected to be similar to PHIL 210; the content will likely be revised in the next academic year. 6. Kazakh Language I The Kazakh language requirements remain the same as under the current curriculum. 7. Kazakh Language II 8. Kazakhstan in the World: History, Society & Global Context This course is expected to be similar to HST 100; the content will likely be revised in the next academic year. 9. Open Box Course This is a student-led course focused on self-reflection, helping students evaluate their non-academic skills, experiences, and interests. It is currently planned for the Spring semester. *Optional: Advanced English for Academic Purposes (ASC 100) This course is only required for students who entered the university with an IELTS score below 6.5. Important notice If you have an IELTS score below 6.5, you will take ASC 100 first, then ASC 200. If your IELTS score is 6.5 or above, you will take only ASC 200. If you complete ASC 100, it will satisfy your Open Box Course requirement. You do not need to take the Open Box Course separately. Current students will continue to follow their existing degree requirements and curriculum. You will not experience any changes directly. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available. If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments below. We will do our best to answer them! Sincerely, Ministry of Education

Dear Students, We would like to inform you about the new ASC courses that will be introduced this Fall semester. Details about the Academic Success Center itself will follow soon. For incoming students If you entered the university with an IELTS score below 6.5, you will be required to take ASC 100 (Advanced English for Academic Purposes). This requirement also applies to students who completed NUFYP. Your IELTS score at the time of enrollment in the NUFYP will be used for course placement. If your IELTS score is 6.5 or above, you will be required to take ASC 200 (Academic Writing, Science Communication, and Media Literacy). This course counts toward your new Core Curriculum requirements (we will post more about it later!). It includes academic writing, communication, presentation skills, and visual projects. For continuing students who have not yet passed WCS 150, you will be offered the ASC 100/WCS 150 course. Its content will be identical to that of ASC 100 and will satisfy your handbook requirements. For continuing students who have not yet passed WCS 2x0 but have passed WCS 150, you will be offered the ASC 200/WCS 210 course. Its content will be identical to that of ASC 200. WCS 210 is used as the second code, as it completes the handbook requirement for all students. Overall, continuing students will not experience major changes to their handbooks. If you have already taken any WCS 2x0 course, you will not be able to take ASC 200. We were warned that there will most likely be a shortage of seats for ASC 200 this year. ASC is doing its best to enroll as many students as possible, but some majors will be prioritized in Fall, others in Spring, and some may even have to wait until next year. We will continue to communicate with ASC to ensure that no student’s academic progress is at risk. Revised tutoring courses This Fall, the Academic Success Center will introduce two new courses that are similar to Writing Fellows programme: ASC 300 and ASC 301. If you have already taken any Writing Fellows course (WCS 39x), you will be eligible to take this course. In later semesters, enrollment will require a very high grade in ASC 200 (A-/A) and a high CGPA, as applicants will be screened. Other notes This academic year, ASC will not offer any electives. Next year, two electives may be introduced: Public Speaking and Writing for Digital Media. It is likely that only students who have passed ASC 200 will be able to take them (students who passed old WCS 2x0 courses will not), and you will need a very good grade in ASC 200 to enroll. All courses will appear soon in the Registrar system, along with the faculty of the new center. Best, Ministry of Education

Dear Students, We would like to share several important updates regarding the upcoming Fall semester. The registration dates and course offerings will be published next week. Please keep an eye on your email and official website. As for the registration platform, the Registrar's Office will provide a separate update at a later date. Regarding the academic restructuring, students who fall under the new changes will be required to sign an additional agreement. They will be contacted later with further instructions. Also, the school reorganization will not affect registration priorities. Best regards, Ministry of Education

Dear Students, As the academic year comes to an end, we would like to sincerely share that this also marks the conclusion of our time as this year’s Ministry of Education. Over the past year, it has been a pleasure to serve you, help resolve your issues, and make your academic life more enjoyable. We have worked hard to represent your academic interests, raise your concerns, and push for meaningful improvements, addressing major issues such as stipend delays. You can take a glance at what we have done this year through our Wrapped-style stats, and you will be able to read more about our work in the upcoming SG Annual Report. With that, the SG MOE Cabinet 2025-2026 is officially coming to a close. Thank you for being with us! Wishing you all the best, Ministry of Education 2025-2026🩶
