🗞 After 2020 COVID blip, road fatalities on the rise again in 2021: • Deaths in India due to road crash increased by 1.9% in 2021 as compared to 2019, according to the Road Accidents in India-2021 report of Ministry of Road Transport’s. • Road accident severity — measured by the number of persons killed per 100 accidents — increased from 33.7 in 2019 to 37.3 in 2021. • Uttar Pradesh accounted for the largest share of fatalities at 13.8%, followed by Tamil Nadu (10%), Maharashtra (8.8%), Madhya Pradesh (7.8%), and Rajasthan (6.5%). • Of these, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh have seen a rise in their share of fatalities as compared to 2019. https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/after-2020-covid-blip-road-fatalities-on-the-rise-again-in-2021/article66314180.ece

🗞 Tamil Nadu information commission worst performing in RTI responsiveness, says study: • The State Information Commission of Tamil Nadu has been the worst performing as far as responsiveness under the RTI Act is concerned, furnishing only 14% of the information sought. • Maharashtra was second-worst, sharing 23% of the information asked for, according to a report card on the performance of Information Commissions (ICs) in India for 2021-22 by the Satark Nagrik Sangathan. • Only 10 ICs provided full information in response to the RTI applications filed as part of this assessment. • These included Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Jharkhand and northeastern States of Sikkim, Nagaland and Tripura. https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/tamil-nadu-information-commission-worst-performing-in-rti-responsiveness-says-study/article66317846.ece
