Utilization of Various Treatment Plans of Cholecalciferol Therapy in Overweight Children Experiencing Vitamin D Insufficiency and Deficiency

A study was conducted on a group of 96 children, aged 7 to 17 years, who were classified as obese. Additionally, 22 children with a normal body weight were included in the study. An individualized method of prescribing cholecalciferol aqueous solution based on BMI SDS was utilized. This approach demonstrated statistically significant improvements in normalizing abnormal vitamin D levels and positively impacted bone resorption processes. Additionally, it contributed to enhancing BMD indices as measured by radiological densitometry. The findings indicated that administering cholecalciferol based on body weight over a period of 3 months resulted in the normalization of 25(OH)D levels in 73.5% of cases, a rise in bone mineral density (P<0.0001), and the normalization of PTH levels (P<0.001).

Possibilities of Optical Coherence Tomography in the Diagnosis of Anterior Segment Injuries of the Eye

Patients with foreign bodies in the anterior segment of the eye make up the majority of those observed with injuries of the organ of vision, and timely and accurate diagnosis is one of the important steps in preserving vision. Taking into account all the advantages of modern technologies, their practical application creates conditions for a significant expansion of diagnostic possibilities in ophthalmology. The use of optical coherence tomography in the diagnosis of patients with a foreign body in the anterior segment of the eye made it possible to evaluate the nature of the foreign body, its depth of location, size and relationship with the surrounding tissues in real time and in a short period with high accuracy.

Complications of Cesarean Section in Irrational Choice of Operative Access in Emergency Conditions in Obstetrics

Currently, the main goal of obstetrics is to reduce maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality, which helps improve the health of future generations. The solution to this problem is primarily associated with the development of rational tactics for managing pregnant women with various obstetric and perinatal pathologies and optimizing the management of childbirth. At the same time, the role of abdominal delivery in reducing rates, primarily perinatal morbidity and mortality, is one of the most controversial problems of modern obstetrics. In 2019, WHO analyzed caesarean sections in 137 countries. It is estimated that approximately 18.5 million caesarean sections are performed worldwide each year. In 40% of countries, the rate of abdominal delivery is less than 10% (average 5.8%), in 50% - more than 15% (average 27.9%) and in 10% - 10-15%. Choosing the optimal incision in obstetric emergencies plays an important role in reducing maternal mortality. Despite the implementation of the National Standards of the…

Carbohydrate Metabolism Disorders in Patients with COVID-19

Components of metabolic syndrome such as carbohydrate metabolism, type 2 DM and obesity are common and significantly increase the risk of hospitalization and mortality in patients with COVID-19. Metabolic syndrome (MS) as a symptom complex leading to damage to the cardiovascular system, as well as increasing the risk of death of patients, was described in the second half of the 20th century. The main components of MS are abdominal obesity, impaired carbohydrate metabolism, arterial hypertension (AH) and lipid metabolism disorders. According to the results of the INTERHEART study, 26% of the world's population suffers from MS. In addition, MS has a steady upward trend. In 2019, a new challenge was thrown to humanity in the form of a coronavirus infection (SARS-CoV‑2), which quickly reached the level of a pandemic. Even when the first patients appeared, it was clear to doctors and scientists that the risk of severe course and death of this infection is higher in comorbid patients suffering from concomitant diseases…

Clinical, Biochemical and Neuropysiological Aspects of Congenital Myopathy in Comparative Aspect with Duchenne Myopathy

Clinical, laboratory and neurophysiological signs of congenital myopathies (CM) were analyzed in a comparative aspect with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). 1 Statistically significant differences were established in the age of manifestation, progression of clinical manifestations and the level of creatine phosphokinase activity in the blood plasma in children with DMD, in contrast to CM, the severity of which depended on the progression of the pathology. When conducting a thorough neurological examination, a myopathic symptom complex with involvement of the proximal muscles of the limbs and/or signs of cardiomyopathy are detected in 25.5% of children with DMD, while with CM this figure is 8.9% lower. The results of electromyography revealed characteristic changes in the potential of motor units and the severity of spontaneous activity, reflecting the nature and degree of severity of the process, which made it possible to determine the severity of the myopathic process depending on the progression of the disease.
