Ibn al-Jawzi (رحمه الله) said: “There was a king who had a lot of wealth, and he had a daughter and no other children. He loved her very much, and he used to let her enjoy all kinds of entertainment. This went on for a long time. Beside the king there lived a devoted worshipper, and whilst he was reciting one night, he raised his voice saying: “O you who believe! Ward off yourselves and your families against a Fire (Hell) whose fuel is men and stones.“ [at-Tahrim 66/6]. The girl heard his recitation and said to her servants, “Stop!” But they did not stop. The worshipper started to repeat the verse, and the girl kept telling them to stop, but they did not stop. She put her hands to her collar and tore her garment, and they went to her father and told him the story. He went to her and said, “My dear, what happened to you tonight? What made you weep?” and he hugged her. She said, “I ask you by Allah, O my father, to tell me, does have Allah have a Fire the fuel of which is men and stones?” He said, “Yes.” She asked him, “Why did you not tell me? ^ While he was imprisoned by the taghut regime in Egypt, Sheikh Dr. 'Abdul-Qadir Ibn 'Abdul-Aziz made some critical comments and analyses directed towards many groups and individuals who claim to be performing jihad today. He was then faced, while unable to defend himself, whith a barrage of hostile criticism and rumours from many who supported those he criticised, who seemed to show more al-wala' wal-bara' towards their groups than the Ummah - a disease many have today. These people spread all sorts of awful rumours, claiming he had disbelieved in jihad altogether, that his comments meant that he worked with the kafir regimes against Muslims etc - audhubillah. In fact, he never said that he abandoned belief in jihad - merely that he meant to criticise aforementioned groups and individuals whom he believed were making mistakes. Yet people made up and spread all kinds of rumours about him accusing him of riddah! In Islam we do not listen to backbiting and rumours and we therefore should not make such accusations. If Dr. 'Abdul-Qadir was sincere in his efforts but made some mistakes along the way, Allah will reward him due to this niyye (intention) on the Day of Judgement. Similarly, if he spoke any falsehood along the way then he will see the consequences of that. When he came out of prison, in a slap in the face to his accusers, he openly stated on television that he believed in jihad, that all the "Muslim" leaders today are tawaghit and that "Morsi is a kafir and those who vote for him are also kuffar." "O sheikh, 45 millions of people voted for Morsi!", protested the presenter. Do you know what Dr. Abdul-'Qadir replied? "It doesn't matter if 100 million people vote! There are one-and-a-half billion people in China, but their number does not prevent them from being disbelievers." Never forget: the truth is the truth regardless of how many people follow it, and falsehood is falsehood regardless of that number too.
