I am Sara Taheri and doings my PhD in health management in European University of Lefke. I am doing a research study about "Career Aspirations applying Choice Theory". In a healthy individual breathing air, the PaO, is normally higher than 11 kPa i.e. about 10 kPa lower than the inspired partial pressure. This can be used as a rule of thumb to estimate the PaO2 for any given inspired concentration, in that it should be numerically about 10 less than the inspired concentration (%). For example, 40% inspired oxygen should result in a PaO2 of approximately 30 kPa. With increasing lung injury, the gap between inspired concentration and Pa02 increases. This is important to recognise because for someone breathing 50% oxygen a Pa02 of 13 kPa is not 'normal'.
