Papa Everyday my papa worked To help to make ends meet To see that we would eat (To) keep those shoes upon my feet Every night my papa would take And tuck me in my bed Kiss me on my head After all my prayers were said Growing up with him was easy time just flew on by The years began to fly He aged and so did I I could tell That mama wasn't well Papa knew and deep down so did she So did she When she died My papa broke down and cried All he said was, "God, Why not take me!" Every time I kiss my children Papa's words ring true "Your children live through you. A story inspired by a shoe-doll displayed in Childhood Museum, Edinburgh. This short film shows a touching story about a young girl and her father living in poverty in London1905. Among all the toys in the Museum of Childhood in Edinburgh there is a special doll that catches everybody's attention. It is not very remarkable compared with the other beautiful dolls on display, but it can be the highlight of the museum. It is the doll made with a shoe and its description says: "Doll made from an old shoe that belonged to a poor child from the London slums in 1905" In 2005 the director Shi Qian visited the museum and decided to make a short animation film which tells the story of this little shoe-doll.
