An excerpt from "Hidden Potential" by @adamgrant I have 18 years of teaching experience, and the theory of learning styles has always looked like a scam to me. It sounds beautiful and simple in theory, but it's absolutely incompatible with real-life application of skills. I always wanted to ask how many hours those researches spent in the actual classroom and how many students they have supported throughout the years. It takes a lot longer than one class (or even a semester) to acquire, let alone master a skill. I know that my auditory channel is very well developed. I love podcasts and prefer audio books. However, I also know that I've been purposefully improving my short-term memory for many years. Without it, my auditory channel is rather useless. If you love listening to audio but struggle retaining information, your auditory channel is not really helping your learn better. There is no theory on YOU. Go and research yourself. How do you learn best? I also use visual aids. I love printed books. I take handwritten notes every day. I do not have one dominant learning style. It's a big mistake to never read or write because you prefer listening. You'll hit a dead-end pretty soon. Find the full episode of Natalia Reads in the community of practice. Practice with me and learn to use ALL of your learning skills. I teach the methodology for achieving native-like fluency in a foreign language and mastering non-trivial skills through applying metacognitive strategies and developing meta-skills. Join us and learn to read and speak in the rhythm of English. nataliatokar.me/community

Extraordinary results are a matter of repeating ordinary actions over a long period of time. Start with ordinary.

“I was waiting for something extraordinary to happen, but as the years wasted on, nothing ever did unless I caused it.” – Charles Bukowski
