Considering the situation in Eretz Yisroel, the Land of Israel, and even here in America, where we have such problems that are trying to destroy us, is it a good thing that among the frumeh, the deeply observant Jews we find even machlokes, dispute/discord now? There are two kinds of dissension among the frumeh, the deeply observant. Sometimes it is caused by wrong reactions, as a yielding to the yetzer hora, the evil inclination, when frum, devoutly religious people are willing to see faults in other frum, devoutly religious people. For example, if people from one community would find chesronos, faults/deficiencies in another community. So if it's due to the yetzer hora, the evil inclination, it's a pity. But sometimes it's due to idealism. Not everybody agrees exactly how to serve Hakadosh Boruch Hu, The Holy One, Blessed be He, and therefore we should give them credit. I remember when I was in Slabodka; Slabodka and Telz were considered two different camps. There was no machlokes, discord, but they were different entirely. I'll give a mashal, parable/analogy. Once, a Telzer yungerman, young married Torah scholar, a kollel, advanced Torah study institute man, came to Slabodka and asked to daven mincha, pray the afternoon service. While he was davening mincha, pray the afternoon service, he said a little bit of a niggun, melody/tune. In Slabodka, a niggun, melody was out of the question because they daven, pray like they are talking to Hashem, God. But in Telz, that was the nusach, the prayer text style/liturgical tradition. So you have two different ways. Now, in Slabodka, they put the whole trup, emphasis/stress on certain things; in Telz, on other things. For instance, a menahal, director/principal of Telz questioned the importance of learning Mesilas Yeshorim, mussar moral and ethical books. Slabodka wouldn't say such a thing; they would say learn it again because you didn't learn it enough. There are shitos, approaches/methodologies. Different shitos, approaches are understandable, and we'll always have a difference of opinion among chachomim, sages/wise men. So you have to know how to distinguish between the yetzer hora, the evil inclination that loves machlokes, dispute, or the yetzer tov, the good inclination that believes in principles. Good Shabbos!
