يَا لَيْتَنِي كُنْتُ طَيْرًا فِي الْعَرَاءِ أَسْتَغِيثُ بِجَنَاحِي فِي السَّرَّاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ لَا قَفَصٌ يَأْسِرُنِي، وَلَا أُمٌّ يَطْفِئُنِي أُحَلِّقُ هَارِبًا حَيْثُ أَشَاءُ، وَحِينَ أَشَاءُ. حُرًّا مِنْ ثِقَلِ الْأَرْضِ، مَائِلًا إِلَى السَّمَاءِ... وَلَيْتَ لِي جَنَاحًا أَخْلَعُ بِهِ دُنًى ضَاقَ بِي شَأْنُهَا.

Oh shadow of my tragedy, and the spark of my madness,
My stillness was shattered by the touch of your hand.
In the dark prison of your eyes, I find myself,
And within the hell of your gaze, I am lost.
Oh lover of chaos, and lord of destruction,
Within the depths of your look lie my doom and my fire.
