✔️The Supreme Court of India delivered a landmark judgment in the case of Maniyar Iliyaz @ Shaik Riyaz v. P. Ayyappan & Ors. (2026), declaring that the right to walk on safe and demarcated footpaths is a Fundamental Right.

✔️The treaty signed on December 12, 1996, between India and Bangladesh governs the sharing of the Ganges River waters during the dry season.
✔️Purpose – To manage the sharing of Ganges waters at the Farakka Barrage, which diverts water to India's Hooghly River to maintain Calcutta Port's navigability.
✔️Farakka Barrage – It was built in 1975 across the Ganges at Farakka, West Bengal.
✔️India and Bangladesh share 54 transboundary rivers that drain through Bangladesh, of which the Ganges is highly seasonal.
