The letters arrived every January. No address. No signature. Just a date written neatly across the envelope. Inside each letter was a warning. Leave. Run. Don't trust they. You're shrinking. Maya ignored them. Every ime. Because the future always sounded dramatic. Because love always sounded reasonable. Until one evening she found herself rereading old journals. Old photographs. Old messages. And noticed something horrifying. The girl in those memories seemed brighter. Louder. Funnier. More alive. It wasn't that she had changed. It was that she had disappeared little by little. Like a coastline being eaten by the sea. That night she opened the newest letter. For the first time. Inside was only one sentence. You miss yourself more than you miss they. She read it once. Then twice. And suddenly understood why every envelope had arrived in her own handwriting.

She said goodbye while kissing my lips
She held me in her arms and said, "I love you" and left me.
