Checking my students’ readiness before their Trial SPM Speaking Test in two weeks. https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSXsn33vd/ Sometimes, the most valuable assessment isn’t another worksheet or mock test, it’s simply giving them 10 minutes to pause, reflect, and think about everything they’ve gone through throughout their preparation. This sharing session allows me to better understand where they truly are, identify the challenges they still face, and observe what further interventions are needed before the real assessment. After all, effective intervention begins with listening before teaching.

THE B.R.I.D.G.E. TECHNIQUE 🌉 One of the biggest reasons students struggle with Part 4: Gapped Text is because they try to find the correct answer instead of understanding how the paragraph flows. Here’s a one-page note that I hope will make the process much clearer. Remember the acronym: B – Before & After R – Referencing Words I – Idea Flow D – Discourse Markers G – Grammar & Cohesion E – Eliminate & Evaluate Practise using these six steps every time you attempt a Gapped Text passage. The more you apply the technique, the more naturally you’ll spot the correct answer. I’ve also prepared 13 practice passages for you to apply this technique. Don’t just check the answers, understand why each sentence fits. May these notes benefit all of you.

Currently preparing my students for intensive reading drills, and the topic they voted for the most was Part 4: Gapped Text, which is honestly understandable. Once everything is ready, I’ll be sharing these drilling practices with all of you too. They’re based on the thematic topics from English Download, and I genuinely hope they’ll be beneficial not only for your students but for many others as well. If these materials can help even one more classroom, that would already make me happy. In return, I only have one small request. Please spare a little time to make a sincere prayer for my students’ success. May Allah ease their learning journey, bless their efforts, and grant them excellent results in their SPM. Amiin.

If you’re a student and you’re reading this, this one’s for you! As part of your preparation for the Trial SPM and the SPM examination, I’ve put together this SPM Article Writing Toolkit to help you strengthen one of the most important components of Paper 2. Rather than memorising model essays, learn how to: ✍️ capture your reader’s attention from the very first sentence, ✍️ develop convincing ideas, ✍️ write with greater sophistication, ✍️ and finish every article with confidence. I hope these notes become a useful companion throughout your revision. Keep practising, keep improving, and most importantly, believe in your ability to grow as a writer. Wishing you every success in your Trial SPM and SPM. One article at a time, you’ll get there 💙

If you’re looking for another writing lesson idea besides short communicative messages and note expansion, why not introduce story writing through sensory details? My Form 2 Mumtaz students learnt how to use sensory details yesterday, and today they applied what they had learnt by transforming simple sentences into more vivid descriptions. It’s never too early to nurture creative writing. The stronger their foundation in lower secondary, the more confident they’ll be when tackling upper secondary story writing later on.

If you’re preparing for your SPM Speaking Test, here’s a technique that I shared during my Just Speak Workshop with students from SMK Taman Nusa Damai last week. I’d like to introduce you to the O.R.E.O. Technique for Part 3: Pair Discussion. It helps you organise your ideas clearly and keeps the discussion flowing naturally. 🥠 O – Opinion 🥠 R – Reason 🥠 E – Example 🥠 O – Open for New Discussion Start by mastering this simple framework first. Once you’re comfortable with it, you can replace the common expressions with more sophisticated ones from your SPM Speaking Toolkit to make your discussion sound more fluent, natural, and impressive. Remember, scoring well in Part 3 isn’t about speaking the longest. It’s about expressing your ideas clearly, responding to your partner, and keeping the conversation going. I hope this technique helps you feel more confident. All the best for your SPM Trial and SPM Speaking Test. Keep practising, you’ve got this!

If you’re a student and you’re reading this, this one’s for you! As part of your preparation for the Trial SPM and SPM examinations, I would like to share this SPM Review Writing Toolkit, specially designed to help you elevate one of the most important parts of your review: the recommendation paragraph. Overall Evaluation → Rating → Greatest Strength → Reason(s) → Recommendation → Target Audience → Final Verdict
Throughout this toolkit, you’ll discover a collection of professional expressions, sophisticated vocabulary, practical writing frameworks, and ready-to-use sentence starters that will help you write recommendations that are more convincing, well-developed, and engaging. Wishing you all the very best for your Trial SPM and SPM examinations. You’ve got this! 💙
