This video made me both laugh and cry… Those that lived through the 1970’s remember what it was like to play outside until it was dark, to came home when you were hungry, and to make your own decisions long before anyone thought to call it independence. We had scraped knees, adventures, and plenty of things our parents never knew about. We had room to explore, to make mistakes, to grow confident, and to enjoy being children. I look at childhood now, so much of it lived through screens rather than through the real thing, and I wonder what it costs a child to grow up indoors, watching life instead of experiencing it, while hearing from every direction that the world outside is something to fear. Rules, regulations, social pressure and relentless fear in the media have changed how we live, mostly without anyone asking whether this is the childhood we wanted for our children. I miss the freedom we had, and I wish we could give more of it back to them. A life spent trying to remove every risk will become a life with no room to breathe, or grow or experience life to the fullest.
