Shift the blame all you want, but you don’t exist in isolation. Your actions and morals don’t exist in isolation, and bettering them is a responsibility YOU have to take ownership of. And for god’s sake, you do owe the people empathy. I said it before and I’ll say it again: what you might talk about as if it’s some extreme is someone’s reality and you lucked out of it. Just because it didn’t happen to you, doesn’t make it an ounce less real.
And don’t get me started on the kind of person who limits their whole identity to just that. Unable to comprehend what it takes to be human. Just missing the whole point when it’s right there in plain sight.
And someone like that would go around with this false sense of authority and entitlement and try to force this flawed perspective upon others. Genuinely insane, no?
I get that we all, to some extent, view the world through the lens of our personal experiences: your parents’ ideologies and values, the conditions of your upbringing, your rationale and choices, the moral compass you navigate the world with, what you deem valuable and worthy of fighting and advocating for… and so on and so forth. But you just can’t stop at that. We don’t live in your little world, bud.
