🫀 Organ of the Day: The Heart (The Myocardium) What is it?🤔 A cone-shaped muscular pump located in the the Middle Mediastinum (المَنصِف الأوسط) of the thoracic cavity, shifted slightly to the left side and resting directly on the diaphragm. Main Function 🫀 A muscular syncytium that acts as a dual-pump. The right side, consisting of the Right Atrium and Right Ventricle, drives the Pulmonary Circulation💨 (low pressure), while the left side, consisting of the Left Atrium and Left Ventricle, drives the Systemic Circulation🩸 (high pressure)to perfuse all body tissues ⚡ Fun Fact(Automaticity): The heart does not need the brain to beat! Thanks to its specialized pacemaker cells in the SA Node(عقدة جيبية أذينية),the heart has intrinsic Autorhythmicity(نظم ذاتي).If you cut all nerves leading to the heart,it will keep beating on its own as long as it has oxygen! Myocardial Infarction-MI (احتشاء عضلة القلب / النوبة القلبية)💔: Occurs due to sudden occlusion(انسداد)of one of the Coronary Arteries(الشرايين التاجية)
