His enemies plotted against him and persuaded the king to pass a law forbidding prayer to any god except the king.

Jesus came from Galilee to the River Jordan to be baptized by John the Baptist. When John saw Him, he felt unworthy and tried to prevent Him, saying that he needed to be baptized by Jesus instead. Jesus insisted that it was necessary to fulfill all righteousness.
John then baptized Jesus in the River Jordan. As Jesus came out of the water, the heavens opened and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in the form of a dove. A voice from heaven declared, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” This event marked the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry and revealed His divine sonship.

The council accused Him of blasphemy and handed Him over to Pontius Pilate. Although Pilate found no fault in Him, the chief priests and the crowd demanded His crucifixion. Peter, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, discovered their deception. He confronted Ananias and accused him of lying to God. Immediately, Ananias fell down and died. 1(a) Give an account of the condition of the Hebrews in Egypt before the birth of Moses. (9 Marks)
The Hebrews settled in Egypt during the time of Joseph and multiplied greatly. After Joseph died, a new Pharaoh who did not know Joseph came to power. He became afraid that the Israelites were becoming too many and might join Egypt’s enemies in time of war. As a result, he subjected them to severe oppression and forced labour. The Hebrews were compelled to build the store cities of Pithom and Rameses.
The Egyptians made their lives bitter with hard bondage and treated them harshly. Despite the suffering, the Hebrews continued to increase in number. Pharaoh then ordered the Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah, to kill all male Hebrew children at birth, but they feared God and refused to obey him. Consequently, Pharaoh commanded that every Hebrew male child should be thrown into the River Nile while the female children were allowed to live. It was during this period of oppression that Moses was born.

Gehazi, Elisha’s servant, became greedy and secretly pursued Naaman. He lied that Elisha had sent him to collect gifts for two visiting prophets. Naaman willingly gave him silver and garments. Gehazi hid the gifts in his house and returned to Elisha.
When Elisha asked where he had been, Gehazi lied again. Through God’s revelation, Elisha knew what Gehazi had done. Elisha rebuked him for his greed and dishonesty and declared that Naaman’s leprosy would cling to him and his descendants forever. Immediately, Gehazi became leprous and was dismissed from Elisha’s service.

After returning from exile in Babylon, the Jews began rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem under the leadership of Zerubbabel. However, their enemies opposed the work and discouraged them. These enemies wrote false accusations to the Persian authorities, causing the work to stop for some time.
The prophets Haggai and Zechariah encouraged the people not to give up. Inspired by their messages, the Jews resumed the building work. King Darius later searched the royal records and discovered the decree of King Cyrus authorizing the rebuilding of the temple.
