| 4 | One mistake many people make when applying for remote jobs is applying without direction.
They apply for every remote job they come across without knowing exactly what role they want. As a result, their applications become unfocused, and their CV doesn't clearly communicate what they're best suited for.
When you don't know what you want, it's easy to spend time applying for jobs that don't match your skills or interests. After facing several rejections, some people begin to believe that getting a remote job is impossible.
Before you start applying, be clear about the type of remote job you want.
Don't just say, "I want a remote job."
Ask yourself:
What role am I looking for?
What skills do I have?
Which jobs match those skills?
The clearer you are about the role you want, the easier it becomes to tailor your CV, write stronger job applications, and apply for jobs that match your skills.
Being clear about the role you want doesn't guarantee that every application will get accepted, but it will help you apply with more purpose instead of applying for every job you see.

| 5 | How does Database Replication actually work?
Database replication is basically keeping copies of the same database on multiple servers. Instead of relying on one database for everything, changes can be replicated to other databases, allowing the system to handle more reads and continue working if one server fails.
But replication introduces its own problems like replication lag, where a replica hasn't received the latest changes yet, and the question of whether data should be replicated synchronously or asynchronously.
There are also different replication approaches, such as primary-replica and multi-primary replication, each with different trade-offs.

| 6 | Sharing this because I found it genuinely useful.
I was using some of those “free” platforms like Render for my projects, but the limitations started becoming frustrating especially when a free database could be deleted after a month. I actually ended up losing data from some of my apps because of that.
That’s when I started looking more into GCP. It gives you access to actual cloud infrastructure, so instead of just deploying an app, you can manage things like your backend, database, storage, and VMs in one place.
And the good part is that GCP gives new users $300 in credits for 3 months
You can use those credits for things like Cloud Run to deploy backends, Compute Engine for VMs, Cloud SQL/Firestore for databases, Cloud Storage for files, and more.

| 7 | What happens when one microservice starts failing?
Imagine your API depends on a Payment Service. Everything works normally, until the Payment Service becomes slow or starts returning errors. Your API keeps sending requests anyway. Each request waits for the Payment Service to respond, so connections and resources start getting tied up. As more requests arrive, the problem spreads. The Payment Service is struggling, but now your API is struggling too.
This is where the Circuit Breaker Pattern comes in. Instead of repeatedly calling a service that is clearly failing, your system can temporarily stop those calls and fail fast.
But how does it know when to open the circuit, when should it try the service again, and what happens when the service recovers?

| 11 | ❓ What happens before a request reaches your server?
When a user sends a request, it doesn’t always have to go straight to your application server.
A reverse proxy can sit in between and handle things like SSL termination, caching, request filtering, and routing traffic to the right backend server.
This becomes especially useful when your system has multiple servers or needs to handle a large amount of traffic.

| 12 | System Design: What It Is and Tips to Get Started
System design is the process of deciding how a software system should be structured and how its different components work together. It focuses on building systems that are scalable, reliable, efficient, and maintainable.
For example, if you were asked to design Instagram, you would need to think about how users upload photos, how those photos are stored, how posts are delivered to millions of users, how databases are organized, and how the system handles failures and increasing traffic.
Tips for System Design
1. Clarify the requirements first
Before designing anything, understand what the system actually needs to do. Ask about the main features, number of users, expected traffic, data requirements, and important constraints.
2. Start simple
Don't immediately jump into a complex architecture. Start with a basic design that solves the problem, then identify where it might fail at scale and improve it.
3. Always think about scalability
Ask yourself: what happens if the number of users grows from thousands to millions? Consider things like load balancing, caching, database scaling, and distributed systems.
4. Understand trade-offs
There is rarely a single perfect solution. Choosing SQL vs NoSQL, consistency vs availability, or caching vs fresh data usually involves trade-offs. A strong system design answer explains why you made a particular choice.
5. Identify bottlenecks
Think about what could become the slowest or weakest part of your system. It could be the database, network, storage, or a particular service. Then discuss how you would address it.
6. Don't use technology just to sound impressive
Don't mention Kafka, Redis, Kubernetes, or other technologies unless they solve a problem in your design. The goal is not to use as many technologies as possible; it's to make good engineering decisions.
The mindset
A good system design interview is not about drawing the most complicated architecture.
It's about showing that you can take a problem, break it down, understand its constraints, make reasonable decisions, and explain the trade-offs behind those decisions.
Start simple → identify problems → scale → discuss trade-offs.

-APIs are just servers talking to other servers
- .env files store your secrets never commit them
- localhost means the server is running on your machine
- auth is mostly tokens and cookies
- npm install downloads a ton of dependencies
- your frontend is mostly making HTTP requests

So we’ve prepared a few important tips for this community.
Here are the main 3 things most people miss.

1. It’s okay to say “I don’t know.”
You don’t have to know everything.
But if you don’t know something, show how you think.
You can say:
“I’m not fully confident with that approach yet, but if I were to implement it, I’d probably consider this alternative…”
2.Study the company before the interview.
Know what they build. Know their product. Understand the role you’re applying for.
Do your homework.
3.Never say “No” when they ask if you have questions.
This is one of the biggest mistakes most ppl make .
When they ask:
“Do you have any questions for us?”
Ask something meaningful.
Ask about their engineering culture.
Ask about the challenges the team is currently facing.
Ask how success is measured in the role.
Ask something that shows you’ve actually taken time to understand the company.
You want them leaving the interview thinking:

So what's the solution
1) Use linux
2) Start with the simplest Linux distro Ubuntu ( it's easy but often called the windows of the Linux lol)
3) Use MacOs ( but you should know the hardware is unupgradeable and it's closed off environment)
4) Dual-boot your PC if you're so dependent on Windows ( if you're a gamer etc...)

| 19 | Why can’t we just send every request to the same server? 🤔
When an application gets lots of traffic, one server can become overloaded. A load balancer sits in front of multiple servers and distributes incoming traffic between them.
But how does it decide where traffic goes?
🔹 Round Robin: distributes traffic in order across servers.
🔹 Least Connections: sends traffic to the server with the fewest active connections.
Load balancers also have different types:
🔹 L4: works with network information such as IP addresses and ports.
🔹 L7: can understand application-level requests and use their content for routing.
The goal is simple: keep traffic distributed so your application stays available and responsive.
