I think this quote is really about the price of becoming the person you want to be. Everyone wants to shine, to be successful, respected, or proud of where they ended up, but we don't always think about what it takes to get there. The word burn represents the difficult parts: the failures, the uncomfortable choices, the discipline, and the moments when you have to keep going even when you don't feel like it
You can't expect to change your life while staying exactly the same. At some point, you have to leave your comfort zone and let go of some old habits and excuses. And honestly, that process can be exhausting. There will be times when you question yourself or wonder if you're even making progress.
But that's part of it
The important thing is not to romanticize suffering. You don't have to destroy yourself just to achieve something. The idea is simply that anything worth becoming usually requires effort and sacrifice. You have to give something—time, energy, comfort, patience—in order to get somewhere different.
And I think the quote is also a reminder not to compare your beginning to someone else's result. You see someone's “light,” but you don't see everything that happened before it. You don't see how many times they failed, how long they struggled, or how much work they put in when nobody was watching.
So if you're still in the “burning” stage, don't assume that means you're failing. Maybe you're just still becoming.
