📚 A Day at the Institute for African Studies On July 13, journalism fellows from African countries visited the Institute for African Studies. The visit brought together African journalists and leading Russian scholars for a day of professional exchange and dialogue. What was on the agenda? 🕊️Guided tour of the Institute – Yaroslav Glukhov and Alexander Novikov, researchers of the Institute, told the fellows about the Institute's history, its research activities, and exposed its role as one of Russia's leading centers for African studies. 🕊️ Meeting with researchers – participants met with the Institute's experts to discuss current research on political, economic, and social developments across the African continent. 🕊️ Roundtable on media – the highlight of the visit was a discussion on the rapidly evolving media landscape. 🕊️ Sharing experiences – the meeting provided a platform for African journalists to share insights from their home countries, discuss professional practices, and establish new connections with the Russian academic community. Inside EFKO: Leadership, Innovation, and a Taste of the Future On 10 July, our InteRussia Journalism fellows visited EFKO, a Russian food company, where they met with Sergei Ivanov, Executive Director and member of the company's Board.

EFKO is one of Russia's leading food technology companies, known not only for producing food products, but also for investing in biotechnology, alternative proteins, and innovative approaches to sustainable food production.

During the meeting, participants discussed: ⭕️ Why empathy is not a weakness, but a leadership strategy; ⭕️How the African philosophy of Ubuntu — "I am because we are" — inspires EFKO's approach to management and international cooperation; ⭕️ The company's projects across Africa and its vision for long-term partnerships; ⭕️ How innovation is transforming the future of food and biotechnology. The Moscow Metro’s most beautiful stations: ‘Komsomolskaya’ This is the subway station that greets travelers and guests of the city arriving at three of the capital’s main railway terminals. The station was opened on January 30, 1952. In the architecture of post-war USSR, the dominant style at the time was what is now called ‘Stalinist Empire’ style. InteRussia Launches Fellowship for African Journalists 🎙 On 7 July, the InteRussia fellowship programme for journalists from African countries officially opened at the headquarters of the International Information Agency and Radio Sputnik in Moscow. The opening ceremony featured welcoming remarks by: ⭕️Vasily Pushkov, Director of the International Cooperation Directorate, Russia Today Media Group; ⭕️ Sergey Orlov, Deputy Executive Director of the Gorchakov Fund; ⭕️ Elena Litvichenko, representative of Rossotrudnichestvo. Sergey Orlov welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of cooperation in the sphere of journalism.

«The main goal of this programme is to show how we live and work in Russia, introduce you to our country, and explain why Africa is important to Russia today. We are honoured to host young journalists from nine African countries, and we hope this month in Moscow will be special for you».

The fellows are young media professionals from Burundi, Zambia, Cameroon, Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, and Uganda. Over the next month, participants will immerse themselves into the Russian media landscape, attend training sessions and workshops led by Sputnik experts, exchange professional experience with colleagues, and take part in events organised by the programme's partners.

The InteRussia Fellowship in Engineering Finishes in Novosibirsk 🧫 The InteRussia Fellowship for young engineering professionals has come to an end at Novosibirsk State University. Over the past month, participants from Ghana, Haiti, India, Mexico, Nepal, Nigeria, Peru, Serbia, South Africa, Sudan and Turkmenistan explored developments in artificial intelligence, engineering and modern technologies while working alongside leading Russian researchers and experts. What did the participants do during the fellowship? ⭕️ Studied AI applications and engineering solutions under the guidance of experts from Novosibirsk State University; ⭕️ Visited Technopark, Astra Production Company, Vega-Absolute, Novosibirskenergosbyt and Eltex to learn about Russian high-tech industries, telecommunications, energy and industrial automation; ⭕️ Presented their own projects and prototypes developed during the programme; ⭕️ Explored Novosibirsk through a city tour, visited the Cossack's Stockade, the Novosibirsk Zoo and the Novosibirsk Planetarium; ⭕️ Attended a performance at the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre (NOVAT). The InteRussia Fellowship for Foreign Archaeologists Concludes in Moscow 🏛 The InteRussia Fellowship in Archaeology has come to an end in Moscow, bringing together young specialists from across the world for an intensive month of academic exchange, fieldwork and cultural discovery. Participants from Uzbekistan, Georgia, Iraq, Sudan, Egypt, India and Turkey took part in the programme, working closely with leading Russian archaeologists and researchers, exploring modern approaches to archaeological science. What happened during the fellowship? ⭕️Attended lectures at the Institute of Oriental Studies, focusing on current trends in history and archaeology; ⭕️ Explored advanced laboratory-based methods of archaeological analysis; ⭕️ Visited key museums, including the State Historical Museum and the Moscow Museum of Archaeology; ⭕️ Took part in hands-on fieldwork at Gnezdovo, one of the largest archaeological complexes in Eastern Europe; ⭕️ Learned about the use of nuclear technologies and modern scientific equipment in archaeology in Dubna. Unexpected Twist: Archaeologists at a Nuclear Reactor ❓ Interussia archaeology participants visited the Frank Laboratory of Neutron Physics in Dubna. The laboratory is one of the scientific divisions of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), an international research center bringing together scientists from around the world to conduct studies in nuclear physics and related fields. During the visit, the fellows were given a lecture on the operation of a nuclear reactor and learned how neutron-based research methods are used to study archaeological artifacts. These techniques allow scientists to analyze the composition and structure of objects without damaging them, providing valuable insights into their origin, age and history. The group also visited the office of the laboratory’s first director, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Ilya Frank, whose pioneering work laid the foundation for many of the institute’s scientific achievements. The highlight of the visit was a guided tour of the reactor itself, where participants had the opportunity to see the facility close and learn more about the technologies that support both fundamental science and interdisciplinary research. The trip offered a unique perspective on how advanced nuclear physics tools can contribute to the study and preservation of cultural heritage ☢️
