Over four intensive weeks, young professionals from Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Uruguay, Cuba, Chile, Ecuador and Brazil immersed themselves in Russia’s fuel and energy complex — exploring modern infrastructure, exchanging expertise with leading Russian specialists, and building lasting professional connections. Ever wondered what happens behind the fuel pump? ⬇️ The InteRussia Energy fellows got to find out during their visit to a Gazprom Neft filling station in St. Petersburg. They managed to see how the station operates and learn about the technology that keeps everything running smoothly. The fellows also explored the digital solutions used to monitor the station and manage its day-to-day operations. It was a chance to see the energy sector from a more familiar, everyday perspective and understand what goes into getting fuel from the supply chain to a customer’s tank. Our Fellows Are Reaching New Heights 🚀 How high can an InteRussia fellowship take you? Our fellows explored it visiting Ostankino Tower in Moscow and Lakhta Center in St. Petersburg. 🔺 Ostankino Tower Our journalism fellows from Africa visited Ostankino Tower, one of Moscow’s most recognisable landmarks and a symbol of Russian television. Standing 540 metres tall, the tower has been an important part of the country’s broadcasting infrastructure since 1967. 🔺 Lakhta Center Next stop: St. Petersburg — and an even higher landmark. Our energy fellows from Latin America visited Lakhta Center, the tallest building in Europe at 462 metres. Its distinctive twisting design draws inspiration from St. Petersburg’s maritime character, with the tower’s silhouette recalling a ship and a rising spire. A Day at the ATOM Museum ⚛️ InteRussia energy fellows from Latin America visited the ATOM Museum at VDNH, exploring the history, development and future of Russia’s nuclear industry. During the guided tour, the fellows: 🔷 learned about key milestones in nuclear energy and Russian nuclear science; 🔷 explored modern nuclear technologies through interactive exhibits; 🔷 visited the special exhibition Atomarium and learned about particle acceleration, nuclear fusion and the principles behind a reactor. The visit gave the fellows an opportunity to better understand the role of nuclear energy in today’s energy landscape and its future development.

What Keeps the Energy Sector Moving? ✨ During their stay in Moscow, the InteRussia energy fellows from Latin America explored two organisations playing an important role in Russia’s energy sector — the Global Energy Association and the Russian Energy Agency (REA) of the Ministry of Energy. 🌱 Global Energy Association The fellows learned more about the organisation’s structure, areas of activity and its role in promoting international cooperation in the energy sector. The participants discussed key trends shaping the global energy landscape, including energy security, technological development and the transition towards more sustainable energy systems. 🌱 Russian Energy Agency The fellows also visited the Russian Energy Agency (REA) of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation. There, they learned about the agency’s structure and its role in supporting the development of Russia’s fuel and energy complex. The participants were introduced to the agency’s analytical and expert work and its cooperation with industry stakeholders. A closer look at Russia’s energy sector 🔋 The InteRussia Energy Fellowship continued in Moscow. Over the past few days, fellows from Latin America visited Russian energy companies and museums to see how the industry works in practice and learn more about its history. 📍 Transneft The fellows visited the Transneft headquarters, where they learned about the company’s work and the processes involved in transporting oil. They also had a chance to see the “Returned History” exhibition, dedicated to Russian emigration and its legacy. 📍 Mosenergo Museum The fellows visited the Mosenergo Museum, where they explored the history of Moscow’s energy system. The tour focused on how thermal power plants work, how electricity and heat are produced, and what equipment is used at different stages of the process. The two visits covered different parts of the energy sector — the transportation of oil and the generation of electricity and heat. It was another opportunity to see the industry up close and connect what they discuss during the fellowship with real companies, technologies and infrastructure 💡

The InteRussia Fellowship for African Journalists Concludes in Moscow ⤵️ The InteRussia Fellowship for journalists from Burundi, Cameroon, Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, Uganda and Zambia officially cаme to an end. Over the course of the programme, participants explored the Russian media landscape, exchanged professional experience with leading experts and gained practical skills in multimedia journalism. What did the fellows do during the programme? 🔷Attended lectures and practical workshops at the International Information Agency and Radio Sputnik, learning about Russian media, multimedia production and digital storytelling; 🔷Recorded their own podcast as part of the fellowship's practical training; 🔷Visited IMA-press Communication Agency, the African Initiative News Agency, the Institute for African Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences and EFKO Company; 🔷Met with Sergey Ivanov, Executive Director of EFKO, and Georgy Borisenko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, to discuss Russia-Africa cooperation and the role of media in international relations; 🔷Discovered Moscow through a sightseeing tour, a river cruise and a visit to the Ostankino TV Tower. Throughout the fellowship, participants built new professional connections, exchanged perspectives with Russian colleagues and gained a deeper understanding of Russia's media environment. Editorial Lab Russia-Africa: Exchange Media Expertise with Russian Experts 📣 On July 28, journalism fellows from African countries took part in the Editorial Lab Russia-Africa, an interactive workshop hosted by the IMA-press Communication Agency. The event brought together experts in international cooperation, public communications, and media relations. Fellows heard presentations by:  🤩Anton Slinchenko, Director of the International Cooperation Department at Business Russia; 🤩Nairui Grigoryan, Deputy Head of External Communications at the Russian Ministry of Economic Development and Director of the Information Policy Department at the Russian Foreign Trade Academy; 🤩Yaroslav Yakubov, Senior International Manager at the Russian Export Center;  🤩Daria Strelavina, Project Manager at IMA-press. During the workshop, experts explored key aspects of Russia-Africa cooperation, strategic communication and effective engagement with the Russian media landscape. Fellows introduced themselves and engaged with the speakers through an open Q&A session. The second part of the event focused on knowledge exchange: participants presented how media ecosystems operate in their home countries and discussed with IMA-press experts the similarities and differences between African and Russian approaches to news coverage.  The session became a valuable platform for sharing professional experience and exploring new opportunities for media cooperation between Russia and Africa 🧡

InteRussia Opens Energy Fellowship for Experts from Latin America ⚡️ On 28 July, the InteRussia Fellowship Programme "The Changing Energy Landscape" officially opened at St. Petersburg State University of Economics (UNECON), bringing together 10 energy professionals from Latin America and the Caribbean. The opening ceremony featured welcoming remarks by: 🔵Dmitry Vasilenko, Vice-Rector for International Relations at UNECON; 🔵Sergey Orlov, Deputy Executive Director of the Gorchakov Fund. Welcoming the participants, Sergey Orlov highlighted the growing interest in cooperation between Russia and Latin America.

"We see strong interest in cooperation with Russia from Latin American countries. We hope this fellowship will give participants an opportunity not only to explore Russia's experience in the energy sector, but also to build long-term professional connections with Russian organisations and with one another."

This year, the fellowship welcomes participants from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Peru, and Uruguay.
