Who was Zarqa' al-Yamama, and is it true that she tried to assassinate the mother of the Prophet Mohammad SAWA Lady Amina bint Wahb (peace be upon her)? Answer: Zarqa' al-Yamama was a pre-Islamic Arab figure from the Najd region, originally from the tribe of Jadhis of Yamama. It is said that she could see a white hair in milk and could recognize a person from a day’s distance. She was called Zarqa' al-Yamama due to the blue (zarqa) color of her eyes. She was a Jewish woman with insight, fortune-teller, and had knowledge from the Torah regarding the birth of the Arab Prophet (ص). Zarqa' al-Yamama was the leader of her people due to her strength, oppression, and the killing of anyone who opposed or disagreed with her. She was wealthy, she owned camels, money, and precious jewels. Zarqa' al-Yamama learned of the imminent birth of the Prophet ص and consulted the seer "Satiyah" and told him of her intention to kill Amina bint Wahb ع, who was pregnant with the Prophet (ص). Satiyah informed her that it was impossible, as the Prophet (ص) was protected by God and the angels. However, Zarqa' insisted and traveled to Mecca, lavishly spending money and meeting with Abd al-Muttalib ع and Abu Talib ع, congratulating them on the upcoming Prophet as a form of deceit. She then searched for Amina and was informed that it was forbidden for anyone to meet her except for her close family and her hairdresser (who combed her hair). Zarqa' al-Yamama visited the hairdresser and showered her with gifts, offering her twenty camels loaded with goods if she would carry out her plan against Amina ع. The hairdresser agreed, on the condition that she would learn a way to escape from the Banu Hashim if they heard Amina's voice. Zarqa' reassured her and said that she would organize a feast, slaughter camels and cows, gather the people, and serve them wine while playing the drums to create noise, ensuring no one would hear Amina's voice. The hairdresser agreed to the plan. Zarqa' then gave her a poisoned dagger with a quick-acting poison that she had purchased for a high price. The hairdresser took the dagger and went to Amina. Amina asked, “Have I ever scolded or hurt you to make you delay your work with me?” The hairdresser replied, “No, my lady,” and began to comb her hair. She then took out the dagger, but the angel Jibril (Gabriel) struck her hand, causing the dagger to fly and hit the wall. Amina screamed, and the hairdresser fainted. And in the hadith transmitted by Mu'awiya (the words are):" It was said to Ibn 'Abbas: What did he intend thereby?
