18-year-old Kamrambek Isoev Debunks Myths About CELTA, Becoming the Youngest CELTA Holder in Uzbekistan CELTA is often associated with the gold standard of teaching English, and many teachers in Uzbekistan boast about it as if it represents the ultimate breakthrough and zenith of their careers.

In reality, CELTA is a short, intensive course that anyone—even non-English specialists—can achieve. Before taking CELTA, I completed some TESOL online programs. When I observed how some experienced teachers and even language centers used CELTA as a promotional tool, I initially thought it was more than just hype. On one hand, CELTA is indeed worthwhile. In one month, you can learn the basics of teaching, which is particularly useful for those without prior experience. However, for those with existing experience, it’s largely overrated. Personally, I mostly learned things I already knew.

It’s no surprise that according to OFQUAL accreditation, CELTA is equivalent to the second year of undergraduate study. It is neither a degree nor a comprehensive qualification.

What did I gain from the CELTA course and certificate? For me, it’s simply a nice-looking certificate on my wall (one more to add to the collection) and an opportunity for some networking and professional development. For new teachers with zero experience or those who taught grammar in a Soviet-style manner, it’s at least a chance to learn something new. For everyone else, it’s just another overhyped qualification. At the end of the day, more than 90% of participants pass the course and receive their certificate—as long as the payment is made in full.

🌀Important Announcement - Landmark Decision In May 2018, the Innovative Centre proudly became the first to introduce the IELTS exam in Samarkand. Before this milestone, students from Samarkand had to travel to Tashkent for a simple test. Once we brought the authentic IELTS to Samarkand, other private centers began offering similar exams with different test providers. Of course, some of them prefer to call themselves first, but the facts speak for themselves and despite their claims, the facts remain clear: we were the first. In March 2019, we took another groundbreaking step by introducing the internationally recognized CEFR exams from Cambridge University (Cambridge English Assessment—the creators of IELTS), effectively ending the monopoly of IELTS exams. By 2021, we expanded our offerings to more than 20 international exams, allowing candidates to take tests like TKT and Linguaskill conveniently in Samarkand. We even extended access to these exams in other regions. In 2022, we achieved yet another milestone: we brought the SAT and AP exams to Samarkand. Recognizing the challenges faced by students who had to travel to Tashkent or even Kazakhstan, we stepped in to address this need. Today, we remain the only AP test provider in Uzbekistan. While we hope for alternative SAT and AP test centers in Samarkand in the future, we are proud of our leadership. As with the IELTS, there may be others who attempt to manipulate facts and claim they were first. But the truth is irrefutable: we were the first. We lead; others follow. Here are the facts: ✍️We brought IELTS to Samarkand in 2018. ✍️We introduced Cambridge Exams (including Linguaskill and TKT) to Uzbekistan in 2019. ✍️We brought the SAT to Samarkand in 2022. ✍️We introduced AP Exams to Uzbekistan in 2022. Yet, we do not rest on our laurels. Instead, we continue to innovate and expand opportunities for students.
