The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “…and the one who struggles whilst reciting the Qur’an and it is difficult for them, then for them are two rewards”. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Shaykh Muhammad bin Saleh al ‘Othaymeen commented on this narration, saying, “And any act worship done in difficulty is rewarded for twice. However, one does not attain this reward if they intentionally choose hardship when there is a possibility of taking ease. For example, if one makes wudhu and there is the option of warm water and cold water, which one should he take? He should take the warm water and use it”. (Sharh Sahih Muslim) ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Intentionally choosing not to learn and improve one’s recitation when they are capable of attempting it, hoping and thinking that this will cause them to attain two rewards, is in fact exactly what Shaykh al ‘Othaymeen has stated, that this is choosing hardship when there is an option of ease, such a person is not from those who attain twice the reward, and this is from negligence.
