*FG directs WAEC, NECO to adopt CBT for exams 2026*
The Federal Government has directed the West African Examinations Council and the National Examinations Council to adopt full Computer-Based Testing for all their examinations by 2026.
The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed this during the monitoring of the ongoing exams alongside JAMB officials, in Bwari on Monday.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that more than 2 million candidates registered for the ongoing examination in more than 800 centres across the country.
Alausa revealed that both the WAEC and NECO would start administering their objective papers via CBT, effective this November.
According to him, the full adoption of CBT for the essay and objective components would commence by May or June 2026.
”If JAMB can successfully conduct CBT exams for more than 2.2 million candidates, WAEC and NECO can do the same.
“We are going to get WAEC and NECO to also start their objective exam on CBT.
“By 2026 exams which will come up in May/June, both the objectives and the essay will be fully on CBT. That is how we can eliminate exam malpractices.”
Alausa also disclosed that a committee is currently reviewing examination standards nationwide, with recommendations expected next month.
Earlier, the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, while speaking on the early schedule of the exams, clarified that the board’s UTME exams had always begun at 8:00 a.m.
Oloyede said that candidates were only expected to be on the ground by 6:30 a.m., to enable them to get accredited before the exams.
He dismissed complaints about early arrival times, noting that it was necessary to screen candidates before exams began.
“We have always started our exams at 8 o’clock. The first session is 8 o’clock, the second session is 10:30, the third session is 1 p.m., and the fourth session is 3:30 p.m.
Oloyede also debunked claims of candidates being posted to centres they did not choose, stating that investigations showed no such cases had happened.
He confirmed that more than 1.6 million out of 2.03 million registered candidates had completed their exams, with about 50,000 remaining.
The registrar further revealed that more than 40 candidates had been arrested for malpractice, including impersonation and attempting to smuggle out exam questions with hidden cameras.
He added that of the registered candidates, more than 41,000 were underage.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has explained how a female candidate in the ongoing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) refused to attempt any question due to superstition.
According to the examination body, this followed her grandfather’s instruction to await a ‘miraculous intervention’ instead of attempting the examination.
This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by JAMB Public Communication Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin.
Although JAMB explained that the incident happened on Saturday, April 26, it, however, did not state the candidate’s name, state, or Computer-Based Tests (CBT) centre where it transpired.
Benjamin said: “On a lighter note, another dimension of gullibility was exhibited by a female UTME candidate who refused to attempt any question when she sat for the examination this morning because she was complying with the instruction of her grandfather to do nothing at the examination but wait for miraculous intervention.
Of course, such miracles do not happen with JAMB.”
He advised candidates against superstitious and baseless dreams of reaping where they did not sow.
The incident raises questions about the influence of superstition on educational pursuits and the potential consequences of prioritizing beliefs over preparation and effort in academic endeavours.

This scam is executed by greedy and heartless individuals who exploit students’ hopes of passing the JAMB exam. They don’t just stop at deceiving you once they keep squeezing money from you at every stage, even after you’ve been scammed.
*Here’s how their wicked scheme unfolds:*

Step 1: The Initial Deception
The scammers lure you with promises of “JAMB runs” (supposedly to open you computer everything answered ). They convince you to pay for these fake services, delivering nothing but rubbish in return. You’re left with false hope and an empty wallet😂.
Step 2: Pre Exam Extortion
Days before the exam, they contact you again, claiming they need extra money to “settle JAMB officials” who will allegedly handle your exam and ensure your success. This is just another ploy to extract more cash from you.
Step 3: More Excuses, More Demands
The scammers escalate their tactics, saying the JAMB officials are demanding additional payments. They warn that if you don’t comply, you’ll face “problems” during your exam. The pressure mounts, and you’re manipulated into sending more money to avoid jeopardized trouble.

Just hours before your exam—sometimes as little as two hours—they hit you with another urgent demand for money.
