FAAN’s deployment of armed security at int’l airports sparks controversy. Mixed reactions are trailing the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN’s, move to deploy gun-wielding officers of Aviation Security, AVSEC, special force across international airports in the country. Opinion is not only divided over the development, facts regarding the increasing presence of arms bearing security personnel have also been expressed. In separate conversations with Vanguard, some aviation security experts complained that foreign travellers who have a phobia for guns might not find their presence attractive, saying it could affect the psyche of travellers. However, others called for the perspective to be jettisoned, explaining that the series of incidents in the 80s and 90s had made the development justifiable.

Cheeky snippets from Davido-Chioma wedding. Superstar singer, David Adeleke aka Davido and his newly-wedded wife, Chioma Adeleke are presently on honeymoon in an undisclosed destination outside the country. The Davido-Chioma wedding hashtagged #Chivido2024 had all the trappings of a high society wedding; money, rizz, steeve and plenty of glamour spruced with top notch entertainment but surely missed some people that would have more power and pomp. No one could believe the richest man in Africa was absent. Any one would have placed a bet that Alhaji Aliko Dangote would be the special guest of honour going by the public knowledge that he is very close to Davido’s father. For whatever reason, he was out of the picture.

Nigeria lost ‘cocoa crown’ and chocolate scheme died after Obasanjo left office — Iyama, ex- President, Cocoa Association of Nigeria. Association of Nigeria, CAN, Dr Victor Iyama, bares his mind on the slow pace of the cocoa industry, saying Nigeria can emerge a global leader of cocoa production if properly positioned. As for cash crops, it is even easier if we do the needful. Like in cocoa, for example, apart from planting more, the old moribund farms can be grafted or replaced because if the old moribund farms are replaced, our cocoa can get up to 800,000 metric tonnes but there are new varieties now that take us two and a half years, and if we concentrate on that, we provide the enabling environment, our farms will not just be in the bush, there should be facilities in farm settlements.
