Germany has 9K Bitcoin left just 3 weeks after it started selling The German government’s Bitcoin wallet is down to 9,094 Bitcoin — just 18% of what it started with — after the latest string of back-and-forth transfers with crypto exchanges on July 11. The wallet, which has been holding Bitcoin seized from a film pirating website crackdown in January, has transferred out billions in Bitcoin since June 19 but ramped up efforts at the start of July. The current tally means the German government now only holds 18% of the 49,857 Bitcoin it seized from film piracy website Movie2k back in January, worth $520 million. Arkham believes the two anonymous addresses — ending in “139Po” and “bc1qu” — are likely owned by institutional deposit or over-the-counter trading service providers. However, that hasn’t been confirmed. Microsoft and Apple renounce OpenAI board membership Technology giants Microsoft and Apple have reportedly decided not to take up board seats at the artificial intelligence firm OpenAI amid increasing regulatory scrutiny. Microsoft has sent a letter to OpenAI announcing its withdrawal from the board, Bloomberg reported on July 10, citing an anonymous person familiar with the matter. The withdrawal came about a year after the Windows software maker made a massive $13 billion investment in OpenAI in April 2023. In contrast to recent reports that Apple would also get an observer role on OpenAI’s board as part of a landmark agreement announced in June, OpenAI will have no board observers after Microsoft’s departure, the company reportedly said. “We’re grateful to Microsoft for voicing confidence in the board and the direction of the company, and we look forward to continuing our successful partnership,” OpenAI stated.
