Geneva is second on the list, while Luzern is third and Bern is fifth. One reason property is so expensive in Switzerland is that many people want to live there, but there is limited space for new housing. Salaries in Switzerland are also among the highest in the world, so people can afford to pay more for property. Luxembourg City is also in the top five, which might not be a surprise since Luxembourg is Europe's richest country by GDP per capita. There, property costs about $12,600 per square meter. The other cities in the top 10 are all in the north of Europe, with the least expensive being the Swedish capital of Stockholm. The average property price there is just under $10,000 per square meter. Global Trust in News at All-Time Low Keeping up with the news has never been easier — but finding information you can trust may be becoming more difficult. In fact, trust in the news is at an all-time low around the world, according to a new report by the Reuters Institute. Reuters has been surveying people around the world about their news preferences since 2015. Its latest survey included more than 100,000 people in 48 countries. The results showed that global trust in the news is now at 37%. It was 40% between 2023 and 2025. The biggest decreases in trust were seen in places like the Philippines, Thailand and Peru. Reuters says political problems and divisive elections may be some of the reasons for these decreases. In places like Japan, Germany and Singapore, trust in the news actually increased slightly. The report also found that videos and social media are becoming increasingly popular as news sources. Thirty percent of those surveyed said these are their main sources of news, up from 22% five years ago. And 12% said these are their only sources of news. AI chatbots are also increasingly being used for news. The percentage of people using tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini for news each week increased from 7% to 10% over the past year. However, the survey found that people trust AI and social media less than traditional news sources. So overall trust in news may be falling as people get more of their news from AI and social media. In fact, many large news organizations are still trusted by a large number of people, the report found. However, people may go to things like videos and social media because they want news that is easier to understand and more relevant to their lives, Reuters said. #reading_for_today
