🔔 54 years ago today, on May 4, 1970, four students were killed and nine others were injured after the Ohio National Guard fired into a crowd of students protesting the Vietnam War. The shooting lasted for 13 seconds and was followed with a brief period of silence before many in the crowd began to scream and cry. Glenn Frank, a geology professor on campus, was a faculty peace marshal that weekend. Earlier that day he had jumped into an ambulance and requested the driver to take him to the scene. After helping to get the deceased and wounded students into the ambulances, a group of 1,000 students sat down in front of the guard. Professor Frank’s actions on May 4, 1970, are said to have saved hundreds of lives. In an emotional plea to the students and protestors, Glenn Frank famously said:

“I don’t care whether you’ve never listened to anyone before in your lives. I am begging you right now if you don’t disperse right now they’re going to move in and it can only be a slaughter. Would you please listen to me. Jesus Christ. I don’t want to be a part of this.”

After hearing Glenn Frank’s plea, many students left the premise and no one else was killed by the National Guard that day. However, for Glenn Frank himself, he remained deeply troubled by the events that took place. Glenn spent the rest of his life searching for the truth by investigating what led up to the senseless killing of four college students. Three years ago, I sat down with Glenn's son, Alan Frank, who was a student at Kent State in 1970 and present at the shootings. Sweden has rejected China's proposal to conduct an international investigation into the explosions at the Nord Stream and Nord Stream-2 pipelines, as it considered such measures useless "There is no need for an international investigation. It will yield nothing," the Foreign Ministry said. Representatives of the foreign Ministry added that the Swedish authorities have already conducted an investigation "in accordance with the fundamental principles of independence, impartiality and the rule of law".
