The arrests came after these young men had objected to Bedouin youths arriving from outside the city harassing girls from Salamiyah and filming them. When the HTS-led General Security militias intervened, they arrested dozens of young men from the Ismaili community, while providing protection to the Bedouins. A protest subsequently broke out demanding the release of the detainees and the achievement of justice and equality through the impartial enforcement of the law, without sectarian or religious discrimination. PJAK statement shows the latest clashes not a sign of a new Kurdish offensive: "Throughout this period, our party's guerrilla forces have remained in a position of legitimate self-defense rather than offense.
