Availability. I was surprised by the degree at which Elastic Container Service (ECS) tries to improve its availability. The attitude to operations is similar to the operational room in NASA (that I imagine). The thing is, ECS powers a lot of other services in AWS, amazon.com, some financial institutions and other services that make a lot of money. It is extremely important that they stay up, and so ECS goes out of its way to stay up. I was surprised that ECS duplicated its stack multiple times within the same region to reduce the blast radius. It increases the operational costs and the amount of configuration, but reduces the number of customers impacted by misconfiguration or bad deployment, and increases predictability.
